Has anybody on here from Australia purchased a Hotrod Deluxe 112 ?

What did you pay for it?

What is your opinion on it's sound?

Cheers.

Sound is good, reliability... Not so good.

I play in a band with a guy who got the 2 x 12 for just over $1200 new, last year. Same same really in terms of sound, except the 2 speakers cover more stage area.

I've played these amps a fair bit as rentals, both the single 12 and double, and I reckon they're a decent and versatile entry level tube amp. Fender have gone for as much modern features in an affordable package as possible, and they've done it well, but the 'affordable' part of the equation makes for some reliability issues. Now these amps have been around a while we know lots of people have had problems with tube heat melting parts of the circuit board traces or making some solder joints dodgy. The tubes are very very close to the speaker in the single 12 and if played at stage volume regularly they are prone to developing annoying rattles and microphonics early in their life.

There are some tonal compromises involved in sharing the same EQ stack for a clean and overdrive sound. Fender have emphasized the low end on these amps so they sound big and thumpy, particularly at low volumes. This feels good but means the drive sounds can be a bit muddy, so they added the bright switch which goes part of the way to fix this - but not all of the way.

For me the Deluxe amps sound a little sterile and flat compared to other Fender amps, but they do what they do pretty well.
