Hello there !

I'm new to these forums , and hope I'll be having a good time here.
I've been active on the gretschpages for some time now too.

After some gigs , I've come to the conclusion that it's time to step up a bit.
I now have a Fender 65FM R , and really like it actually.
It has a good clean channel (I play clean 95% of the time) , but cracks up too soon at lower volumes.

Now I've decided to buy a fender tube amp.

EDITED :
At first I wanted an amp with a tone that's ideal for rockabilly/rock'n roll , and can reach a high volume on the clean channel before it cracks up.
But now , I realise that I like a crunchy sound too , I just never really tried it myself , cause it didn't sound good through my Fender 65FM r.
Here is how I always played my stuff :

Do you think it'd sound better with a little crunch?
It also has to go well with my Boss RE-20 space echo (which I use for rockabilly slapback).

Thanks already ,

By the way , if there are better amps in the same price category (can be a little higher or lower) , you may also suggest those

If you plan on gigging a lot, I'd go with either a Bassman or Super Reverb RI if possible. Much higher quality quality professional amps. The Egnater Rebel 30 and Marshall Haze amps are nice too.

Well I gig in small venues , small pubs.
So a Deville would give me enough volume i guess.
A super reverb is a little expensive , right?
I also have 2 good offers for used devilles.
One is a Blues 410 ,the other one a hot rod 410.
That's why I would have liked your guys' opinion on both

You can gig with a Deluxe Reverb Reissue. You don't need 60 watts to gig in small clubs. I don't recommend any Hot Rod amps because of all the problems I've had with mine and problems I seen others have had on some of my and my friends gigs. I sold mine for a Egnater Rebel 20 and two 112 cabs. So far I've gigged in medium to large clubs with it and haven't had to mic it yet. It's an incredibly great sounding amp. I don't know if they're available where you are.

For Rockabilly, I'd really look for a used Bassman reissue. To gig, you want something reliable. My HRDlx was anything but.

I may be going for the bassman reissue indeed ,
how far can you push the clean sound before it cracks up?

The Bassman breaks up pretty early, the breakup sound is probably Fenders nicest. The amp doesnt make any sound until the volume dial is at about 3.At around 4 to 4.5 it starts to break up slightly, but alot depends on how hard you hit the strings. If you are looking for clean, I would recommend a super reverb, but you cant play it in small clubs and get decent tone.I would highly , highly recommend you check out the Deluxe reverb and if you mic it, you can coax plenty of headroom out of it and use pedals for overdrive. The hardest part about gigging in smaller clubs is not being too loud., but being able to hear yourself in the mix.For the bigger places, just mic it thru the pa .

Well I like to hear others play with a bit of crank in the playing .
But myself , i've always played clean . That's because when I put the drive on my FM 65R on 2 and the volume on 4 , it loses alot of it's character , so I just switch to the clean channel.
But maybe it's time to change that and play something that you can't call "distorted" but more , Clean with a crunch.
Here is an example of how my settings are now :

Do you guys think it would sound better with a little bit of crunch , just like brian setzer does it?

Thanks

Well if I were 15 and playing rockabilly, i would get a deluxe reverb because you are probably playing at home for the most part and the devilles would be too loud for that.A deluxe reverb would probably keep the peace at home plus its versitile enough to gig with and it will give you clean and a lush reverb , which is part of Brian Seltzers sound .You add a tubescreamer or other overdrive pedal for crunch and turn it on or off as needed.

Yea , deluxe reverb seems good to me indeed.
I'm not sure if it has enough volume though.
Like I said , my transistor FM65 R (65watts) is actually just not hard enough for my gigs (well , it is , but it cracks up at about volume 3/4 , while I want it to be clean).
So are you sure the deluxe reverb can go hard enough?

Brian Setzer actually uses a 63 Bassman and a Roland Space Echo. Recently he was seen using what looks like a Supro Thunderbolt. Watched your video, if you play Setzer's stuff, you really need to dirty it up and toss a little more attitude in there and you'll be golden. You need a little slapback echo too. Rockabilly usually has some dirt to it anyway. It just ain't right played so clean.

Yes , If you mic it you can play clean for as long as you want.It is 22 watts of all tube , but it is louder than your fm65 and way better sounding. It would cut thru the mix better than say a 40 watt all tube hotrod deluxe.

That is very good news!
I feel a bit sorry that I'm probably not getting a tweed amp (they look so much better) , but it's all about the sound , isn't it?
Thanks!

Tweed isn't really the covering or a look. It was a sound. The DRRI has 22 watts and is pretty loud. It will actually be louder than your Frontman. It will also cut the mix better. My 20 watt Egnater actually keeps up and cuts better than most 100 watt solid state amps.
