150 watts is extremely loud. At 100 watts a dimed SF Twin will make your ears ache to the point that you'll have to lay down for a while. I know, I own one. Bass amps are a whole other story. You need a ton of wattage just to be heard. "The Nuke" is a solid state amp too. It's probably the equivalent to a good 200 or 300 watt tube amp. I bet one of the old Ampegs would just blow it away. Plus it's only $600? Bugera? Nuff said. I bet the only thing it will "Nuke" is the circuit breaker at a club.

Every one who has not experienced a high wattage amp for themselves needs to do it just as a reference point. Concerts don't count. The stage volume is nowhere near what's heard in the audience. It's all coming from the pa system.

When you see 20 Marshall stacks on a stage, usually only one is actually used. Sometimes there is a much smaller amp behind the scenes.

Neil Young is loud right? His main amp is an old Tweed Deluxe that only puts out 12 watts.

It's all smoke and mirrors my friends.

But the marshall stacks look great on video.Thats where the younger guys get the idea they need a 100 watt stack to get great tone .All they get is mad neighbors and tinnitus and hearing loss later in life.

I've had tinnitus for a long time. It's no joke. There's no cure either. Wear ear protection kiddies. Also, have respect for you audience. No need to make them deaf too.

Been playing drums from a young age, then ya'll crazy guitar players with dimed amps.... :D got a piece of my hearing too. I had a gig once where the drummer's (my) monitor was a 4x12 cab. It was soooo loud, I actually had to stop after song #2 to tell the sound guy to turn down my mix. My left ear rang for three or four days. I don't think it's ever been the same since.

yeah, back to the DRRI, it has a 5AR4 rectifier tube.

The 5YGT or the 5U4 however can provide twice the sag as the 5AR4.
But, the 5AR4 is a stronger tube.

I have heard u can sub a 5U4 or a 5YGT in the DRRI. ????

I have read where u can usually "go up" but NOT down?
So, if u have an amp with stock 5AR4, U CAN SUB 5YGT OR 5U4, but not the other way 'round?

Yep. For a long time. I don't think they've had a tube rectifier since they went Blackface. The Blackface amps went for real clean and real tight. Tube rectifiers sag when you hit them hard. Not everyone like the sag. I know a few guys that have modded their old Fender amps and hooked up a switchable SS rectifier. You then have the best of both worlds.

The Brown Concert, Vibrasonic, Bandmaster, Pro all had solid state rectifiers.
The Blonde Twin, Bandmaster and Showman all had solid state rectifiers.

The move to solid state rectifiers was also a result of trying to get more wattage; at the time rectifier tubes couldn't handle 40 watts or more, which is why as the Twin, Bandmaster, Showman etc. started increasing the wattage, they went with solid state. With newer, better rectifier tubes (able to stand the punishment of a Mesa Dual Rectifier) you can perform the mod to some of these if you want - the switching is an interesting idea.

Ah supro, dont be so quick to knock bugera.

A friend of mine bought a Bugera 666 XL ( Its a copy of peavey's joe satriani signature) about a year and a half ago and he's a heavy gigging muscian and he's treated it pretty badly and it still gives him a good tone.
Thats already outlived most the HOT ROD series amps so they must be good for something...

I know, made in indonesia, not soldered, clips infact, but it sounded good and has lasted impressively

Bugera = Behringer. I wouldn't buy any of their copycat crap. If you like something, buy the original vs. a cheap China ripoff.

Yep, one in the same. I was trying to be nice. They're stuff is noisy garbage. It's not a good value at half the price. No offense.

My 3 watt Pignose is built better than a Bugera, and I've had that for 35 years and always play it flat out and control the volume with my guitar. A year and a half is nothing. A heavy gigging musician should know better. I hope he at least has some backup.

Sorry, but I'm not a kid and know a little bit about equipment. I've been around the block more than once and spent over 20 years gigging and being in back up bands LOL. I know what's loud and what's not and usually what's dependable and what's not. Okay, I screwed the pooch on the HRDlx, but that was the first time. Bugera/Behringer is total junk. Mostly kids buy it because it's cheap and loud and fits the Metal thing well.

Funnily enough he plays Surf

And yeah he's a student with very little cash to spare and bought it on impulse off the internet. He's not a gear guy, he's just happy to play threw whatever, aslong as he's making music.

I dont know how he doesent care, im so anal about choosing the right gear together!

For me, it's also a matter of supporting companies that make great stuff and not those that unscrupulously copy their work. Behringer is the lowest of the low when it comes to MI gear - they are notorious for shamelessly copying Mackie mixers, Peavey guitar amps, and QSC power amps among others. If they were improving on them or offered the same quality at a lower price, that would be great, but instead it's cheaper, and poorly made, so it ends up costing you more - remember, buy once, cry once.

If you care about keeping good companies alive, don't buy their cheap crap. Save up for the better stuff. It will sound better and last longer.

Oh yes, im a big believer in that. a few months ago i got a Behringer pedal tuner and recently it broke. Just randomly. I dont like buying anything behringer.

I was just saying, i was surprised at Bugera, i thought it would have gone up in smoke within two months.

I also try to get all things i need locally, at a little guitar shop near me. We're good friends and whenever i go round he offers me a brew. You wouldnt get that from Guitar Centre would you?
