Essential part which was hard to get in the Netherlands arrived in the mail (1 month). So started to make the build. So far, so good ...

Done, and I have to say it sounds surpringly good for a homemade project. Despite the fact that most of my soldering isn't very good, this little box with only some simple and cheap hardware in it does exactly what I want !
Late night playing over the tubes of the Fender XD, using my Headphones ! Yihaa !!

Big thanks to Alex_under for this project !!

tech specs: I used some different material than as described.
    - The meters and switches were the most expensive in my case . Maybe scavange them out of on old piece of crap electronic and keep the expenses even lower
    - Metal case for believe it $3,50
    - resistor wirewound, 50 Watts, 8 Ohm ($4,99 on the Ebay link as listed earlier with free shipping)
    - resistor, 10 Watts, 470 Ohm (dunno, $2,00 or something)

After consulting with a tech guy, this box could be used on every Amp. up to 50 Watts or less (50 is really the limit, less is better !!). So certainly not only restricted to the Fender XD :)

Hello everyone,
Thinking of buliding one of these for my Champion 600, which has 4Ohm output.
Should I use 4 Ohm resistors for it, or keep 8 Ohm as in the project?
Should i consider any other amendments if i decidce to use 4 Ohm resistors?
I'm a real noob here, thx.

Hi M2F,
Stick to whatever Ohm The manufacturer says it is !! I'm not a technician, but this seems to be very important. If your Champion 600 uses an 4 Ohm speaker, you can use the itemslist, and replace the resistor wirewound, 50 Watts, 8 Ohm, into 4 Ohm.

So you'll need a resistor wirewound, 50 Watts, 4 Ohm. This is because this part will function as the dummy load to "replace" your speaker in your setup. This is the part you will need to change!

The rest of the components are generic in use, I think.

Success !!

Hi all, nice project!
I want to make one for my superchamp X2 but I can't get 8 ohms 25watt resistors, It will work with 8 ohms 10 watt resistors instead?, considering that my amp is 15 watt?

...so I built this project too. Slight modifications based on the parts I was able to source. I used 7.5-ohm 1% 50-Watt resistors. Since this is a bit shy of 8-ohm, I added two 0.3-ohm, 1% 25-watt resistors (...all I could get) in series where I thought they would help. I also used a 1K-ohm 10% 7-Watt resistor whereas the schematic calls for only a 1/4-Watt.

The project is OK at best. After cleaning up some of the connections, and ensuring no conductors are touching the chassis, the project works well. Be careful with the volume pot. The schematic says 5K ohm. I had a 500K ohm, which only works on th elast 1/16 of a turn as it gets to its low end. Anyway a bit of fun for a Saturday.

Schematic, bare wired, and front after buttoning it up.
(Edit...oops wrong schematic  )

I know I have an impedance mismatch on the Bandmaster shown...but I have other 8-ohm amps...and I figured going to 8-ohms would be OK with the Bandmaster

And the view of the back side.

I might have a bad connection on the SPDT switch, which doesn't help.

All In, it cost under $40, with only one burnt finger, and one scratch from a metal burr while drilling out the box.
