I just realised de attenuator project. I'm very proud and happy! Now I can play at night without waking up everybody!
One thing. The pot-meter is for the headphone channel, so when I want a tuby-sound I turn the potmeter low and I can turn the volume of the amp high but ..... Can it also be done for the speaker. so I can get the tuby sound on a low volume by turning the volume of the amp high. Do I have to install a second pot-meter or can I realise it with the existing potmeter of the headphones? :D

You know what worked for me..

I plugged the line out into the guitar, in, on my solid state amp (with the champs speaker unplugged)........which has a headphone adapter...works really well...also having this without the headphones but with everything else the same (and the champs speaker plugged in the normal place) gives the superchamp a nice rounder deeper tone as the other amp adds a little more bass and size to the sound...

Great mod Alex, and you simplified it so that a wiring novice like me could follow it ...Thanks!

Hi,

I am a french guy and I am going to try to build such an attenuator for my SCXD.
I think that the only thing missing to this amp is an headphone jack especially if you are living in a flat.

I am looking for all the parts needed to build the attenuator but I can not find the DPDT switch.
What kind of switch should I use?
And for the attenuation bypass?

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards.

Poupou

if you don't find a DPDT switch you can built it with a SPDT.
The thing with this is that headphones will always be ON. The switch is there to only cut off the speaker.

Here is a better drawing made by a guy in a greek forum ( http://forum.kithara.gr/index.php?topic ... #msg601538 ) that knows a lot about building his own electronics, effects etc.

Thank you for your answer.
I still have some questions.
Why did you use 50W resistors for a 15W superchamp xd and not 25W as on the drawing?
Why didn't you use a 500ohm resistor on the headphone output?
What kind of wire did you use (section?)?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

Best regards.

Because these were available at the time, at my local electronics store. Any value, greater than the amps Wattage, will do.
Bigger=Better in this occasion

I did, later on. I put a 150ohm resistor. I just haven't put it on my original drawing.

Any descent and thick enough wire will do.
Just use regular electric current,wire.

Thank you.
I am just starting to understand.
What I would like to do is to add a headphone out to my SCXD.
I don't care of attenuation to the speaker.
I only need 2 modes :
- first mode : attenuation bypass, signal directly to speaker
- 2nd mode : attenuation to headphone (with volume), no signal to speaker.
So I think that the circuit will be more simple than your.

What kind of circuit should I use?

I am interested in making one of these. Could I use a 8ohm 100w resistor and get the same outcome? this is the one http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdet ... er=019-020

@Alex_Under :
Time for you -and for Greece- that you start to produce this stuff.
As Fender issued their new Superchamp X2 without an headphones out, you may probably be successful. And I am sure you can get listed at some of the top German e-shops (like Thomann), in case you do not want to sell directly.

Hi,

Just got all the bits for this, allthough I think I may have got the wrong toggle switches as mine say 2amp 240v on them, and are much less chunky - under half the size.

What ampage switches do I need for the box to be safe/work fine ? 6amp or 15amp or higher ?

I was trying to make out on the switch on the photo..it looks like 6amp allthough I'm not 100% on that.

Thanks,

Owen

Am I the only one remaining on the planet with a XD and a desire to use a headphone? There must be more lost souls such as me out there 8) . Ok, so I wanted the same thing as poupoupsi asked for earlier in this threat.

Two options are disired, speaker on and headphone off, or speaker off and headphone on. Alex_Under provided us with a great technical sketch, especially for non-tech noobs like me, to make it more understandable.

I got the parts needed except for the resistor. In The Netherlands this part seems very hard to find and very expensive to order. And so I found this link to a manufacturer in China who could deliver exactly what I wanted for a couple of dollars/euro's and ships for free! The latter seems to take a while (currently waiting for it to arrive) so I had time to pre-assamble the case, drilling holes, mounting the connectors and give it a brush with a spraycan. Because some people mentioned this device can get pretty hot, I drilled some holes for ventilation on either side of the box.

I'm certainly not a technician but I will keep you updated and provide more helpfull information as I build this little box. Now it is still empty inside.
