Hello,

I have just bought a Hot Rod Deluxe amplifier which is adjusted to the American electrical system - 120V, 60Hz. I will try to use it in Europe which have 230V, 50Hz.
For that I will require a Transformer. My questions are:
1. To what voltage should the transformer be decreased to? (please remember 50Hz!)
2. How much VA (Volt*Ampere) should the transformer be?

Are there any problems or difficulties I should be expecting or aware of?
I don't know enough about electronics, so I appreciate knowledgeable answers...
Has anyone done it in here to share his thoughts?

Thanks in advance! :-)

Hi there HRD, thought maybe some of the folks from the UK or Europe might give you some hands-on help. What you'll need is a step down transformer with 230V/50hz primary- 120V/60hz secondary, rated for at least 200watts output. I think you'll find what you need at: gearslutz.com

Hi aclempoppi,
Thank you for your reply!
I was told I need the spec of a) the step down (?) voltage, and b) VA of the transformer. Isn't it so? Does the specs you pointed out here are enough for purchasing an adequate transformer?
Do you know which forum in gearslutz.com is appropriate to post my question?
Sorry for the load of questions. I'm afraid to damage my amplifier.

Thanks again! :-)

HRD, I apologize for not getting this real straight. Thought that site sold the transformer. I'm an old amp tech and not too familiar with all this computer stuff. The voltage needs are: 230V/50hz primary- 120V/60hz secondary. The volt/ampere need is 300VA. Some transformer sellers don't use VA, but instead use output wattage. In your case, go for 300watts output. You might want to look into the adapters necessary for each particular country that you will be playing in. I understand the wall sockets differ in some countries. This is why I was hoping some of the UK or Euro folks might advise you. Art
