Hi I own a Fender Super Champ XD and a Champion 600 and I would like to know if I could change the power tubes without the need of a bias adjust. Thanks for the help.

If you put the same brand tube back in the amp you should be ok. You would want to rebias if you change to something different though.

You mean the same tube type (6V6, 12AX7) don´t you? A diferent brand of the same tube will make any diference? like a chinese or URSS tube even if they are 12AX7 and 6V6???

Yeah, that's what I meant. Sorry. I should have said type, not brand.

The Champ 600 is a single ended amp (one output tube) and cathode biased, so put whatever 6V6 in there that you want. It's fun to experiment with various brands of tubes. I like the JJ 6V6 from Eurotubes. And feel free to put any 12AX7 or its variants, ECC83, 5751, 7025, 12AU7, 12AY7, etc, etc. There is no need to bias an amp when you only change preamp tubes. The Champ 600 is a fun amp to play around with different tubes.

Sorry I'm not familiar with the Super Champ XD. It has two 6V6's and I'm not sure if it has a bias adjust or not. It very well my be cathode biased for all I know. Do the stock 6V6 tubes have a color code (determines the tube rating) and are Fender branded? Better stick with the same color code and brand unless someone that really knows the Super Champ chimes in. Don't bother changing the 12AX7 unless it has died since it's purpose is a phase inverter only. It doesn't really effect the tone at all. The preamp is all solid state/digital in this amp.

Thanks a lot for your explanation. I actualy own 3 tube amps. An Orange Tiny Terror Head the Champion 600 and the Super Champ XD. I can feel the diference when I play the Orange and the Champion 600. The Super Champ is great amp with a wonderful clean sound but the Orange and the Champion 600 got much better tube feel maybe becouse they are pure tube amps. I think people call that type of amps a class A amps. I saw a post at the Orange Tiny Terror forum saying it is cathode biased too so I will have no problems changing the power tubes. I hope I can do the same with the Super Champ XD. I made some videos in youtube using all of them, some demo videos in portuguese, my home language. I´m not experienced with tube amps but since I bought the first one ( the Orange) I never played with my solid state stuff again, so soon I will need to change some tubes...

Thanks for the help! I feel more confortable to burn some tubes now !!!

Hi Mauro, actually the Super Champ XD does have a bias adjust control. If you are changing the 6V6 tubes, it should be checked. The 12AX7, in my opinion, is very important. It should be a matched dual triode tube(phase inverter) for the best results from the power tubes. It not only drives the power tubes, but presents them with two mirror images of the pre amp signal(180 degrees out of phase with each other). Hey you got it goin' with the blues, in that Tiny Terror clip. Very nice! I played rhythm in a blues for years. Art

Thanks a lot Aclempoppi! So with that bias adjust I will not try to do any tube changes by myself in my Super Champ xd. Better find someone that really know how to do it. Thanks for your help and for your kind words! Best wishes!

by the way in the Super Champ XD you got only one 12AX7 in the preamp section and 2 6v6 for power.
