Hi All,
Can anyone tell me if the 57 Champ is made in the USA, I looked in the amp section of the website and it doesn't say, I'll assume that it is because it's handwired. I'm getting old and I just can't carry the twin reverb around anymore. :(

thanks,
Nic

all the reviews I have seen have stated that is IS made in USA. That probably also explains why it costs what it does...

I'd get a 57 Deluxe or a clone 5e3 from mission amps. The 57 Champ is a lot of money for a 5 watt one knob amp. You can get an original 57 for that or even less. A Princeton RI would be nicer and made here too. Very light to carry around and a great practice/recording amp.

I was thinking about the Princeton as well.....and I do think the Champ is a little high for a knob amp. Since I don't play out, my 65 Twin Rever RI is just way to much amp to play in the house, not to mention, it weighs a ton.

thanks all.

Nic

It says made in USA. I've played a few. The cab and component board both may be made in Mexico for all I know. Final assembly and all that is done in Corona, hence the made in USA. The 57 Champ is a very nice little amp, but waaaaay overpriced. The market is saturated with much cheaper tweed Champ clones and kits.

For that price Leo should come back and be building them himself. You can buy original 57's for not much more. The circuit is very simple and you can hand wire a clone kit yourself for about a third that price or less and it will sound every bit as good. Same with the 5e3 Tweed Deluxe.

Thanks you guys , what do you think about ALONG with this 57 Champ amp using "a Boss FDR-1: Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb pedal thats has : "Level, Gain, Treble, Bass, Vibrato and Reverb controls", also my BOSS RC-20XL" that I have ! If I want I could always add these other Fender Boss pedals the : FBM-1: Fender '59 Bassman: "Presence, Treble, Mid and Bass EQ controls" and FRV-1: Fender® Reverb "Dwell, Tone, and Mix" !!! A quality amp very plain but with these features I would think it would be very COOL !

Paul for the Champ, I would just use a guitar and a good cord. Why destroy that great tone with pedals?? Isn't that why people pay almost a grand for them? Keep an ear open for cabinet buzz. The reissues are notorious for it. I tried one that buzzed like a can of bees in NY.

Glad you like the amp, good luck with it.

I read that Jeff Beck recorded most of his last album with a Champ.

I also read that in GP magazine interview with Beck. Of course, Beck is using an actual 50's amp, not one of current version.

He said that Billy Gibbons has been noodling with smaller amps lately as well. Ironically, a couple days prior I saw some live music video that Gibbons was on (don't recall who the artist was), but saw a small Champ-size amp onstage, and wondered who was using it. Now I know!
