I wasn't sure which forum to put this under, I think this might be okay. I'm considering buying an EQ pedal to experiement with my tone, but I'm not sure what to buy. Can anyone out there recommend a decent pedal without a huge price tag? My setup consists of a stock 2008 American Strat played through a Blues Junior (love it!), with a Boss BD-2 for overdrive. I'm trying to achieve that hot, Texas-Blues/Rock, SRV/KWS type of sound. Don't get me wrong - I love the sound that my blues Jr. gives me, especially when played loud, but I can't resist the thought that it could sound just a little tougher, without going too distorted. Perhaps a pickup upgrade would give me better results than an EQ pedal? Any input/comments would be helpful. Thanks!!

yea...you and everyone else
just kidding, it is a great sound. personally i grew tired of chasing after achieving someone else's signature. it's expensive.

anyway, i use the FX40B EQ from DOD. it's a 7-band, works pretty nicely. bought it for $40. just boost the 800 and 1600 Hz bands a bit, and you should be right down in Austin.

Why not build your own unique sound? It's easier and cheaper too. And did I mention unique?

+1, and it is so much more fun too.Besides the KWS and the SRV sound wasnt built on el84s anyways.I saw KWS over the summer and he was using a deluxe reverb .If you are looking for a descent eq, I use the Boss ge-7 with good results.Mostly I use it for a eq for my acoustic with good results.

He, he.. I knew that was comin'! Good point, though, and I do love cheap stuff! I've always been happy with my sound (which is why I don't use a bunch of pedals), but I've always read about people using EQ pedals - can't help but wonder if I might be missing out on a killer sound by not using one. Some people seem to swear by 'em...

Maybe I'll just keep my eyes open for a good deal, and give one a try sometime. Or, maybe, I'll just turn up my amp a bit louder and keep practicing - that always seems to help, too! Anyway, thank you for the response!

Hey Holyroller,

I also use a BD-2 between my Standard Strat and My Hot Rod DeVille and have found that the Boss GE-7 pedal helps to create a really nice tone. It allows you to vary your tone to a much greater degree than the tone knobs on your amp allow. I picked one up used on Craigslist for about $50 bucks, and have been very happy with it.
