I would consider myself as an old school metalhead. I bought the scxd 9 monthes and totally love it. I swapped out the origional tubes a run it through a 1x12 cab.

But I guess my question is what type of metal do you feel channel 14 is good for. I feel the need to use pedals for most heavier music. Meaning old school Metallica, Maiden and Priest. I was never really impressed with the scxd's distortion(13 and 14).

However I do think the scxd is one of the most versatile amps out there. Especally for the price. And I think it sounds great with my Boss MT-2.

I play Priest, Slayer, Metallica, etc. I thought 14 sounded really good. Though I did have some effects going as well. Messed with reverb. And some chorus and delay.

I use a Megadrive pickup. Which doesn't tend to sound real good through practice amps because it has alot of low end. But for some reason, it sounded really good through the SCXD.

To me 14 has that Cowboys from Hell vibe to it.

I was going to get a Vox Valvetronix VT50. Its effects are cool. But I never really could get into its distortion as it usually sounded muddy like it had a blanket over it. Playing the SCXD on setting 14 sounded alot better than the VT50.

What setting do you use your Boss MT-2 on?

It seems like we like the same groups. I usually play my MIM Strat with a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge position. When it comes to the MT-2, I currently have it set like this-

Level-10 o'clock
High-12 o'clock
Low-2 o'clock
Middle-12 o'clock
Mid Freq-2 o'clock
Dist.-2 o'clock

I use these settings on the "A" channel on the scxd. As far as the base and treble on the amp goes, It really depends on which guitar I use. There's a major difference in sound between my Strat and my Explorer. I can really get a great old school Metallica/Megadeth with my Explorer. While the Strat is good for some of the lighter metal.

What settings do you use on the MT-2?

I don't have an MT-2.

Though, I think setting 14 sounds good enough for me. I hardly come across an amp that has a distortion that I like. I'm gonna check out the SCXD and the FM25 to see which one I'd want. I'll go to the Guitar Center that has the demo booths. So, I can crank them up.

Don't get me wrong, the 13 and 14 channels do sound great. It totally sounds better than my Marshall MG30. I really think the tubes makes the difference. And it takes well to pedals as well. Not to mention that the scxd can get loud for a little 15 watt amp.

Your best bet is to play them side by side and decide what you like best.

I just have to hope they have an FM25 in. If not, then I may just get the SCXD.
