Does anyone have any ideas on modifying a Hot Rod Deville 212? I love the amp, but it seems like it goes from no volume to blasting loud. I'd just like to make the volume a bit more controllable. Thanks.

replace the pots in the volume controls. it a bit of a fiddly job but its do-able.

This is a very common problem for the Hot Rod series amps. Big the Cat is right. Replace the volume pots with linear taper pots, like the kind you'd find in audio equipment. There's lots of info on this around the web. Alot of folks here in this forum have done it to their's, so maybe one of those guys will chime in and give you some more specific info.

You want AUDIO TAPER pots, NOT linear taper pots. It has a linear taper pot for the volume control now. Linear taper goes from 0 to full blast in the first ten degrees of volume control rotation. So you guys that think the HRD series amps are really loud, it's because you're running almost flat out by the time you hit 4 or 5 on the dial. It was done as a marketing ploy. No other series of Fender amps use linear taper pots for volume controls.

Here is an explanation:
