i plan to soon go out looking for a new amp. I have decided that the frontman amps are the ones for me. I have played through the 15g and I loved it.
Before going out and embarrasing myself, i hoped to find out a bit about the frontman amps. The three i have notaced are th 15g, the 15r and the 25r.
what is the main differenct between the three and which one is best????

my main guitar is a classic player jag if that helps. if you know of any similar amps that are good for the classic players, please let me know
thanks

Welcome to the forum. The Frontman amps are excellent solid state models and offer a lot of value for the money. The 15G is a 15 watt amp without reverb while the 25R is a 25 watt amp with reverb. The extra money spent on the 25R which sells for about $99 at Guitar Center and other music outlets is in my opinion the better value. Your only paying about an extra 20 bucks but get a lot more amp. The Frontman series has excellent clean tone. If you would like to read some reviews on these check out www.harmony-central.com and check out user reviews. Most brand amplifiers are there. The 25R is pretty highly regarded for the type of amp it is. Good luck in your search.

Hello Frankydory,

For about a decade I used a frontman 25r.
Never had a problem and sounded great.
Loaned it out and never saw it again
so I suppose someone else liked it too.

One of these days I'm gonna spring for another.

Sparkling clean tone of SS.

Cheers.

I have a 25r, and I'm very happy with it. I've had it about five years now, and use it as a practice amp, when I don't feel like using one that's bigger.

I also have a 25R, and its a great little amp, with great cleans. really good to muck up with some effects.

For the little bit extra cast from the 15, I'd go with the 25R. The extra power is nice if you ever have to play a small gig.

if you are on a budget go with the 25r if not go with the 65r or 212. they have the dyna touch type feel. they work real well with your pick attack. all take pedals well. the 65r and 212 have effects loops whitch is always a plus i've had a 65r and still own a 25r both were good purchaces.no problems with either of them.

Can anyone tell me the purpose or advantage of the effects loop? What is it used for?
Has anyone tried a different reverb tank with the 212R to give it more depth?

Vette's dead on with this advise. For such a small extra outlay you will be much happier with the 25. I have a number of Fender amps including all 3 you mentioned and the 25R is far superior to the 15's. The Frontman amps do have troubles though. Small as these troubles are you might want to treat them properly to extend their lives without trouble. The input jacks are a weak point. The solder joint tends to break away from the PC board. What I recommend, and do, is run the guitar cable through the handle on top to avoid tugging on it at the jack. Also, some of the lower priced amps have RCA inputs. For some reason I have come across a number of owners that have blown the amp when using these. For me, I just do not use them. It's not worth the chance. At least not for me.

+1 on the 25R. It is, IMO, the best practice/tiny gig amp for the $$$. I used it last week to lead worship at my church for a weeklong retreat. It's a great little amp!

See my thread on the mods I made to my Frontman 25R.

It now sounds fantastic.

Frontmans = Great amps. For rehearsals, and even small gigs. Spring reverb contained. No usable distorsion (solved this problem with a Boss SD1 in front). Lot of power!!!!
First mod - a GOOD speaker (Ragin' Cajun or so...) really improves the little guys.
Loop In/Out on 65R is a great ideea. I've sold my 25R and got a 65R because of these connections. Now I can re-amp my SCX2 head through bogger power - 65W if needed.
Also have changed the case of my older 25R before selling it, to a pine DIY case. Big enhencement! Bass came back to life, mellower but rounded, bigger sound! I dare suggest you to try this mod if possible.
