Always used Fender Amps, but this is my 1st one with any tubes in it (Super Champ Vintage Modified- brand new, mail order). It makes a noticeable static noise that sounds like muffled popcorn being cooked. It is annoying, although you don't hear it if you are playing at any volume at all. It does it anytime the amp is on, and the volume or any of the other controls don't increase or decrease the sound.

Is this popping/static noise normal on Fender Tube Amps? If not I will send it back I guess.

Thanks for any ideas on this!

Be sure the tubes are properly seated. I'd just pull them and reinstall them.

No Al, static or arcing is not normal in a tube amp. IMHO It's totally unacceptable in a new amp, unless you ordered one with static! This problem is becoming more common. I wonder if it has to do with the packaging and shipping? Sorry you got a noisy one. ART

+1....when I installed tube dampners on mine I didn't seat them right and had that same problem...I reseated the tubes and no more noise.

Thanks guys. I took the tubes out. blew them off, put them back end the same way making sure they were fully seated and got no improvement. Bummer, I guess I'll send it back. Thanks again for the advise.

Ouch, Send it back. You don't need problems with a new amp. Unfortunately they don't make em like they used to. It could just be a bad preamp tube, but you shouldn't have to deal with it.
