I would really like some advice from you guys on this amp.

Found a person nearby that is selling his on craigslist for $500. He recently put in new pre-amp tubes and the amp is in very good shape.

So in your opinion, am I making a good purchase here?

any good/bad experience with these amps?

I have done some research about the two models of that amp. one is a 4-10 inch speaker model, and the one you are looking at. the 4-10 is taller, and heavier. i have seen in forums, that most folks prefer the 4-10's tone. I believe both models are the same output power, or wattage. You could always go to a music store like guitar center and try both out, to see if it's worth waiting again for a 4- ten to become available. I have seen around a dozen of the hot rod devilles listed on the madison wisconsin craigslist musical instruments for sale section for right about $500 bucks in around the last 8 months in both varieties. cheers!

Ryan, seems to be a fair deal, if everythng on the amp works good. My main concern would be; what kind of use and service(maintenance) the amp has seen? how many hours are on the power tubes? Then there is the test drive. Ideally, you would want to get the amp heated up plenty good and play it at various levels trying every control(take a friend-the extra ears and support are invaluable). Dave makes a good point, about the speaker configuration. If you could hear the difference before checking out the amp, that would be great. You'll want to use your guitar and cable for the test. If I'm talking about stuff you already know, my bad. ART

I wouldn't buy a used HRD series amp. If you do, be sure it hasn't been modded in any way and ask if it's ever been repaired and why. Used for that kind money or a little more you may be able to find a Bassman RI, Super Reverb RI or a DRRI. Much better amps IMHO and constructed much better too.

Ask if there is any warranty left too.
