I have a small Fender amp I got around '93 but recently it will make a loud crackling sound when I hit certain notes on the low E string. The technical term is probably clipping of the signal and I think it means that the electronics are failing. Does this sound familiar to others and is it worth fixing?
Thanks

could be the spring reverb, or maybe even the tubes. unless the caps are leaking.

It is a Squier 15 practice amp. I assume solid state.

Unfortunately It may not be worth repairing unless you blew a speaker.

You could try taking a look inside and see if any connectors came loose. It would be worth a look. If you like SS amps, you could move up the a Frontman for not a lot of cash. Wish I could be of more help.

Agree with supro, if it is not the speaker or speaker connection it needs to visit a tech.
And the cost of service might almost get you a small 15 watt frontman or gdec.

I think the Frontman 15g is around 63$ at sweetwater http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Frontman15G/
and the
Gdec junior is about 135$ http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GDECjr/

Try a little wiggle of the input jack with the cable plugged in. See if you get some response. Either noise or the sound goes away. Strum the guitar as you do this so you have sound going into the amp to listen for. If you get a response the input jack MAY have a broken solder joint on the PC board. I recently purchased 30 warrantee return amps and in most cases this was what the trouble was. I soldered a bridge over the circuit and all is well. Of the 30 I would say that about 20 had this problem. Most of the rest were blown fuses that required an amp chip replacement and some had a loud squeel. Good luck.
