Hi Clem, without rebiasing you're kind of limited to matching the same type and grade tubes you're replacing. Although, the bias should be checked whenever the power tubes are replaced, the values of amp components can change over time. KT66's may be very cool, but would require a bias check. The older 5881 wouldn't hold up to the plate voltage(471DC), but maybe the newer ones can. But again it would need a bias check. That being said, if you replace the tubes and the amp sounds good without the large plates glowing orange, you can call it good and forget about it. The biasing is just a way of making sure the tube is operating within it's safety zone. A lot of people adjust the bias by ear then check with a meter or a visual check. ART

My HRDlx came with 5881's but the plate voltage was a little lower than a DeVille. They weren't great sounding tubes anyway. The newer production 5881 tubes are a bit different than the original 5881. I know people who run them in DeVille's but they don't really sound that great to me. YMMV

Like Art said, actual plate voltage can vary from amp to amp. I went with a set of JJ's from www.eurotubes.com

You can get full retube kits from them. I went with their Blues Option #1. They have other configurations depending on how much headroom you want or how much gain you need. I would always check the bias after changing power tubes. The JJ's made a world of difference but if you bias too cold, it will sound sterile and brittle too hat and you red plate and cook the tubes.

Eurotubes has videos on how to bias the Deville.
