A friend of mine said disconnecting the reverb tank and running a patch cable from the "reverb out" to "reverb in" allows the reverb control to increase the preamp gain of my Princeton Reverb RI.

I tried it and it is VERY noticeable. Huge sustain and gain. So much gain that I figure more than a minute of operation might burn up something.

Anyone know what's going on inside the amp? Will this patch burn up the amp?

Regards,

Yep, Guitarist, that's an old trick, haven't heard anyone talk about that for years. Guess the newer amps bumped up the gain enough for most folks. Anyway, you'd need to put a 470k ohm 1/2 watt resistor across the center leads of the RCA plugs. You'd have to shrink wrap the resistor leads so as not to ground to plugs or chassis. What's going on in the amp is that the reverb circuit is now a gain stage. The patch without the resistor will damage the reverb circuit. If your amp is still under warranty, I would not advise this mod. Instead, I'd try a tube screamer or something like that. ART
