no lethal wounds. good start.

bb: got better answers than the ones i've been reading.

63: nope, i only developed a tool to get the max out of the CT, that's it. rest is up to you. never intended to convince anyone, just wanted to point out tube amps got as far as they have around the late 60's, it's now 40 years later and new digital possibilities are emerging, and these digital possibilities are far from stale or stagnant. i just can't resist poking a bit of fun at the tube guys, they get so defensive as if their lifestyle is going to evaporate - it won't.

Les: i really appreciate the compliment. btw, in >1.5 years, zero software bugs to date! w.r.t. the CT, i've been living with it for several years, the CTs have been pretty good to me. i play surf, clean with lots of reverb, maybe it's the music i play, i haven't noticed anything missing. my reserve amp is a JC-120 (chorus is killer on this amp).

ft: get a grip. 63: you got suckered by ft. budglo: as usual... you guys should form a band of some kind. how about "the tubies", bubbies?

C U on a digital screen!

ciao,
johnny.

Anything could happen in the next billion years.

Maybe they'll re-invent the valve somehow and it will offer whole new sounds and put the transistor to shame.

Digital is digital, tubes are tubes...to say one is better than the other is to compare a cruise ship to a corvette: they are both forms of transportation, but neither will take you on the same journey. To say that digital will replace tubes is a little far-fetched, IMHO

Yeah Johnny, that was an interesting read and I'm sure the future will bring us the subtle differences that seem to be so important to some of us. But holding the pasture gate open isn't gonna make it. It's gonna take some doing. " It's like trying to herd cats." Art

If you want a true modeling amp, it should be built with tubes. There is no reason tube technology can't or shouldn't be the wave of the future.

The retro trend that started in the 90's killed forward thinking tube technology, even though it was heating up in the same decade.

I believe I own one of the closest things, and underrated pieces of equipment ever built, it is the ADA MP-2 preamp (10 different tube voices). I have spent years with this thing and still find many new usable tones, and they all are all analog tube tones. While not as simple for something you want on stage, it can be used if you spend some time working with your patches.

I see no reason why companies should not work on creating high quality tube circuit boards that can configure and use a series of preamp tubes and power tubes in many different configurations to recreate different sounds.

The only reason they have been using SS is to make it even more affordable. Everytime I try SS amps, and I like some of them, but they never give me the authentic sounds I like. The distortions are buzzy, there is a lack of dynamic, and the cleans are somewhat flat sounding. Tube's sound more natural, with less digital sounding buzz when pushed.

The problem is tubes today aren't built to MIL spec and aren't as reliable as they used to be. I always carry a couple sets of spares. But you are right. You will only get true tube tone nuances with tubes.

I don't know from nuthin", BUT the clean on my SCXD has wayyyy nicer tone than anything on my GDec junior.

Tubes? Maybe. Bigger speaker for sure makes a difference. All I know is I like it.

Apart from the sheer superiority in sound and dynamics I love the romanticism of valves/tubes. There is something wonderful about them I can't put my finger on that makes old school so cool and I like to have such things associated with my music.

Long live the mysticism!

2nd that. Newer doesn't necessarily mean better.
