Has anyone got any opinions on the Digitech RP1000 or 500, or the Line 6 M13 or M9?

I'd like to tidy my floor!

I'm not looking to use it on stage, just mucking around at home. As for looping, I like that most of them have it, but I have a Boss RC-2 for that too.

Thanks.

Hey veryslowhand, digitech were once good but havent kept up sadly.

The sheer quality of the line 6 is much much much better

however the only downside is that you have to buy the EX-1 expressions pedals separately.

But, and a big but, the difference between the M13 and the M9 is that you are restricted to 3 models simultaneously on the m9, but on the M13 you can use 4.

Line 6 is the best way to go. Im saving up for the M13, its great.

Shame about the digitech though, digitech used to be a really good company but they've just have kept up with line 6 unfortunately.

Mind you its the same with dod who digitech absorbed. The dod auto wah is still probably one of the best to this day. (Not to forget about the madness they did such as the, "Gonkulator Modulator")

Big The Cat is right on the money: Line 6. Their stuff keeps getting better, and better, and better. Roland also has some pretty cool stuff, you owe it to yourself to check it out. Fender - nothing except for the Cyber Twin.

ciao,
johnny.

I have the Digitech RP355 and I was really surprised at how great it is. I think that it just depends on what you are looking for and what your needs are. Line 6 is fantastic gear as is Roland/Boss...if you have the chance to go to a place and try them all out then by all means go for it and believe me let your ears do the deciding. Hope that this helps!

Okay, thanks all – the M13 would be the favorite then... I was leaning that way – reassuring to have it confirmed.

Let me throw one more into the mix... the TC Electronic Nova System. The M13 has the option of phones and the looper (although I've got the RC-2), but the Nova System gets great reviews. Anyone tried it?

For goofing around when I don't want to drag out the full board I find the little RP-155 is not bad and it is also relatively inexpensive.

Do you already have a lot of pedals and looking to switch, or just getting started on buying effects?

If you're just getting started, a multi-FX can be a good way to go; our bass player has had good luck with his Line 6 floorboard.

If you already have a bunch of good pedals, why not build/buy a pedalboard and build your own tone? With discrete effects, you can get much better sounds than in a multi-FX, but at a price. The nice thing is you can add on what and when you can afford.

Two different paths, both valid depending on what you're looking to do.

What amp are you using?

Oh the nova system, its really good! Its a little more expensive and a hell of alot more fiddly and its pretty traditional, the basic effects sounding really good but the line 6 has alot more inside it, for instance the line 6 has a ring modulator whereas the tc electronics hasnt got either.

The sound between the m13 and the nova system is pretty similar.

Go for the M13

(P.s i wouldnt use the boss stuff, i find its too common sounding, un-versatile and boaring.)

I was a being a little flippant about tidying my floor. I have a few effects and I have a SCXD whose effects I don't use because they are rubbish (frankly) and not as easy to access as stompers. I'm also getting a H & K Edition Blue for phones and CD in and for the clean channel.

Anyway, I'm getting heavily into looping and I'd like to have a load of effects at my disposal, but without a million cables all over the place. So I'd rather fork out now for a good multi-fx system.

My heart is telling me Nova System because I don't want all the amp models, but I think the M13 might be easier to use...

... BTW, is the looper silent start? Can't find anything to answer that question.

I've tried just about all of them and I've been happy with the Korg PX5D and the Korg AX3000G.

The Korg units use REMS Technology which is the same as used in their high end synths.

The PX5D also doubles as a USB audio interface for recording on your computer. I really like the amp/cab and pickup models and the effects are amazing.

Like I said, don't want amp models – I've got the SCXD for that.

Digitech has gone downhill IMO. I had a RP-50 that I bought in 2001, which I used for about 6 years or so. This year, I upgraded to a RP-70 and sold the RP-50. I wish I never did that. The RP-70 sounded really sterile compared to the RP-50, so I ended up selling that one also. Now I just use the built in effects on my Crate GTD 120. If I do see another RP-50 around, I'll snatch it in a heartbeat. Those are great little pedals IMO.

yeah, its such a shame because so many of their effects were well known and well used by gods. (Such as the digitech Whammy).

they're new line of Hardwired pedals are really good though. Maybe the should rebrand them "Hardwired BY digitech" then bring out some more obscene stuff like some fuzz's, vibes and radical ring modulators and it would catch peoples eyes alot better

Just a follow-up. I decided on a TC Electronic Nova System.

I know it will be a little less intuitive to use and has fewer gizmo's, than some of the others, but I believe that once you've got it figured, it's worth it.

Picking it up in Liverpool on Tuesday – will report back in a few month's time for anyone who's interested.
