I'm in the middle of a GAS fit. but, I getting a new amp in the new year, and so far my choice is between the following...

Fender Blues Deluxe
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe
Fender Deluxe VM
Vox AC50 CP2

I play a Tele Lite Ash, currently only through a wee Champ 600 in the house, and a Vox Cambridge in the studio. My head is pulling me to the Deluxe VM as a stepping stone to something more substantial, as it has a lot o the fx i need built in, my only problem is there are none in Belfast for me to try out. Same for th AC50. so, anyone here wanna offer their thoughts?

Thanks :)

What genre or style are you wanting to use it for?

It really is best to go try them out and listen to them in a shop if at all possible :)
but if not here is my current opinion:

After hearing the Deluxe VM put through it;s paces by Greg Koch last night and all the problems I've had with the hrBDlx
the VM would be my pick. (or an Egnater) .

It was plenty loud bordering on painful in the theater he demoed it in when he cranked it to max (good thing for ear plugs :!: ).

I'm usin it for stonesy mixed in with guns kind o rock. Both rhythm and lead. Not too much gain on the rhythm, just a nice natural break up. My mate has a hr deville and he not had many issues so i think it like any kind of product there days, sometimes ya get a dodgy one.

Right then. I wouldnt suggest any of those amps for you. The Hot rod deluxe and the blues deluxe are practically the same amp, and both have reliability issues. Same with the vox, the vox's nowadays (All the AC ones anyway) have all had faults with the speakers and outputs so they arnt a reliable choice.

The deluxe VM doesent seem too band though. Id suggest try a fender Supersonic. I didnt like them at first but they grow on you and are actually quite nice.

Depending on your budget Id suggest one of the new fender twin amp PT (The ones with the gain channel). If thats too far out your budget then someone round here will point you towards egnator which are a good set of amps.

If i had to choose one from the four you picked though, id go for the Deluxe VM.

Are you playing just at home for fun/recording, out live in bars/clubs, or both? How you'll use it is as important to determine what's best for you.

My wee champ is good for in house and recordin at home. Drivin it with a marshall guv'nor plus. Shoppin for giggin amp. Around 500 to 600 pounds mark. Dunno what that equates to in dollars. I want somethin to keep me goin a while til i move up to the 65drri level. The dvm is a good steppin stone i think as it means i got the onboard effects while i also build a pedal board with the ones i want. Next pedal purchase will prob be a double muff. I love those things. Brilliant for those moments of endless sustain

No worries. Taking your time is probably the best thing to do since you dont get those impulse buys.

I suggest you go for the Deluxe VM and then with money left over get a 2x12 to open it up a bit. you should be onto a win with that one

I've played the new band master and it wasn't to bad. Has on board effects and with some pedals you can make it work for you.

The Deluxe VM bro will do you more than nicely til you build your board then next year use it in a trade for a DRRI. Thats what I'm gonna turn my DeVille into although I dream of a 57 Twin and Blackface Bassman head.

I have the Blues Deluxe and it is a little different than the HR.It is warmer sounding with switchable reverb. Not a bad amp,but the reliability of the line is documented. If you want a 1-12 setup I would definately check out the egnater or the DRRI.The drri has awesome reverb. If you like the 4-10 configuration, check out a used 59 bassman ri.There isnt a 4-10 setup in the fender line that can touch it (maybe a super reverb).Great amp ,and can be found reasonably inexpensive.JMO.

the thing about spending money is that once it's spent, it's gone for good. that's the scary part. no one wants to drop hard earned and then be disappointed.

you really can't go wrong with the rigs you have mentioned or others have recommended, these are all known good sounding amps. but like anything else in life, it has to fit you. audition as much as you can, play your current music and try a few licks towards the music you want to grow into. then pick. eventually, as your talent grows, you will probably grow out of any choice you have made and you'll exchange it for something else. it's the way it is.

good luck,
johnny.
