Hi, I just bought a used Blues Junior amp (American Made) on Sunday. I tried it out and it sounded great. There was a long drive home with slight bumps in the road and I would hear the reverb tank rattle a bit.

Now when I play with the reverb turned up above "0" I get an annoying buzz in the mix and the reverb is pretty faint. I checked to make sure the connections are all in properly.

Can anyone suggest what I should do with the amp/reverb tank to get rid of this buzz?

Thanks!

Check that the RCA in/out plugs are fitted tightly into the reverb tank.

I'm afraid to say that the reverb unit in Blues Juniors is a well known weak spot. Once they've gone (mine lasted 2 months of light use) they're pretty much unrepairable. The spring sensor wires are SO thin and delicate. They don't sound particularly good either.

I now use a reverb pedal with my BJ. Much better all round.

Thanks, I took the tank out and everything looked fine. I played another BJ yesterday that had stronger reverb w/o this hiss so I'm thinking I could just buy a replacement tank and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

However I heard on of the tubes is for the reverb and it would make some sense that turning reverb up w/ a bad tube could give a weak, hissing signal...

anybody know which tube I should replace? all of them at once?

thanks!

I made the same mistake, bought a american made blues jr from 98. The later mexican one is a far superior amp, but still nothing to write home about.

The reverb reacts a lot to volume above 6, unfortunately volume doesnt respond well to the volume control above 6. A lot of the reverb hum/hiss I attribute to the tanks close proximity to the power transformer. I removed the tank and screwed it down to a seperate plyboard that gets lifted out of the back of the amp and set to one side before I plug in. Its less noisy but still weak sounding when quiet.

Unles I'm very much mistaken, or even terminally bewildered, the 4 valves in a BJ are for pre amp and power amp duties only.

The reverb is solid state - not valve driven.

Apparently, a good replacement reverb tank is made by a Company called Ruby, or is a model called Ruby.. Google it, for full details.

Hey thanks for the tips. I'm going to take another look at those transducer connections and see if that'll fix it. If not that 3EB2C1B Ruby looks to be an awesome replacement.

Has anyone used that Ruby tank? Is there extra drilling in the cab I should be prepared for?

Thanks!
