I don't understand the problem. Regardless of it's intended use, the DRRI for just a little more cash is a way better value. A few more watts, giggable, bigger speaker and two channels with separate EQ in case you may want to jam with a friend. I always found the PRRI way overpriced.

The reverb may sound richer because of the bigger speaker.
Thank you!I didnt see the problem either.I wished someone would have given me advice like that about my first tube amp.The drri is very home friendly to play thru.Nothing worse than taking it out and finding out it just doesnt have enough power, especially if miking it isnt an option.

budglo, No problem my friend!
I only recommend things (or not} that I have had personal experience with. If I don't I just keep my mouth shut. I have used many, many different amps in many different scenarios in my 40 years as a musician and use that as a reference point, not just price. Versatility and reliability are important to me and to steer someone into a situation that for any number of reasons is just silly especially with two pieces of equipment are so close in price.

If someone doesn't like my advice, don't take it and move on. It doesn't bother me in the least. At least I didn't try to steer the OP from Fender. :D

Hey, you old coot………….who you calling silly?!!!!!!!

“well that thar’ little feller’ cost almost as much as that thar’ bigg’un. Sheeeeit fire, Mable, I’m getting’ the biggun ‘cause it’s better value.” Now, THAT’s silly!!!!

:?: I don't think of myself as old, just experienced. :D

Not as silly as your post young feet.

The thing is in my opinion(take it for what its worth),When I look for an amp, I want an amp that I can play under as many situations as possible.I have a 15 watt blues jr for small venues and practice. My next step up is my blues deluxe(which i dont use much anymore )and my 59 bassman. If I were just starting out in tubeampland, and was looking for an amp, I would want an amp that I can use for practicing at home AND to gig with eventually.I know the OP was looking for one just for home, but how many of us started out at home without ever thinking about gigging only to find that a bit down the road thats exactly what we want?Only problem is now I have this amp that is really too small to gig with , and now I have to buy another amp.Thats why I think it is a good value.Sound advice in my opinion.

No need for the sarcasm and arrogance. No a SCXD isn't the same as a PRRI, but it is the same wattage and speaker configuration and has 16 different amp voicing's and I sure you could probably dial in a Princeton.
It was mentioned somewhere that the PR claim to fame was a recording AND practice amp.
I'm sure everyone has seen the Jim Campilongo video.
Don't know about bbrodie, but 'm done with this pissing contest. You seem to like to argue for the sake of arguing while belittling people at the same time for not sharing your opinion.
It's had to argue with someone of such immense wisdom, awesomeness and knowledge as yourself. LOL

Thanks for the advice guys. Just to wrap it up ('cos I think some of us have had enough)...

I got the G-Dec, tried it, put it back in the box, sent it back to whence it came! Should have known better. Horrid little thing... and noisy as f***

So, for my 'creative moments' I'll be getting a Line 6 M13 or a TC Nova System and a solid state amp with CD (backing tracks of my own choosing not Fender's) in... and phones out, to save my marriage!

A little embarrassing to cause some heated debate for nothing – for now I'll stick with the SCXD, but I WILL get the DRRi one day.

so, which amp would be better for home use - PPRI or DRRI?? (j/k)

billco, thanks for going into the differences for me. i A/B'ed the two over the weekend and would have to confirm some of the differences that you noted. wattage/volume differences aside they did seem to have some distinct tonal variations - though, clearly more related to each other when compared to the tweed reissues that i am more familiar with.

VSH, sorry the G-DEC didnt work out for you but sounds like you have another viable option. I actually just picked up a DEC over the weekend (it was a good weekend:)) - thanks for the input supro - and for my novice skills it will be a good pickup i think. I already have 'real' amps so, yeah the DEC sounds artifical, digital, whatever...i am not looking for it to be an amp, i just want it to be a nice practice tool and it will fill that nicely.

The GDec is what it is. I'd never consider taking it out of the house to gig with. The noise can be tamed if you turn down the gain parameters and shut down the effects. It can help a beginner with timing and as you get more comfortable, build more skills. I use it to keep the cobwebs off my playing. Some players really get into it. I can't get that involved in the whole MIDI thing.

There is also a noise gate hidden deep in the Amp menu that does a good job of controlling the noise with the G-DEC.

The Rockin' With G-DEC default preset that pops up when the G-DEC is first turned on sounds really nasty with a single coil Strat plugged in if the noise gate isn't set. That's why the much quieter and more useful Chicago Blues preset is my default now. :)

As for the original question... I tried both the Princeton and Deluxe Reverb Reissues and decided to spend the extra money on the DRRI. The dry channel was a deciding factor, as was the extra power and the bigger speaker. The DRRI also stayed clean at higher volume levels and it's definitely fit for gigging. It's a fantastic amp.

John

Marty Stuart and Kenny Vaughan use Princetons. Go to Fender's home page, select News, select Video, select Product Demos for Fender Vision and Marty will tell you he's went back to a Princeton.

Oh Maaaan...I wanted to chime in.

With all due respect to the Gentleman who really wanted to get his point across...

I don't think the DRRI's too much for the house at all and I'd wager you'd never regret choosing it over the Princeton. I think, all things considered, the DRRI's the best amp anyone's ever mass produced. In fact there's no question. Which to me makes it the all around best amp ever.

In fact I didn't think one was quite enough. Deals to be had on pre-loved. Bought the second one a year old, looks brand new, barely used and the speaker still not broken in for six twenny plus thirty for shippinig.

But I must explain. No, there's no time. Let me sum up.

I love the push of the 12" speaker, the clean headroom of the DRRI and the outstanding breakup when it does occur.

I'm an old rocker, but I also love these guitars clean and strong with reverb and maybe a little delay.

I switch between the two via a Lehle and pretend I'm two different guys or more often play through both either through the Lehle or that increadible yellow stereo chorus.

However, in defense of the above referenced Gentleman, I must admit that quite frequently over the last couple years when anyone speaks to me my first response is "What?"
