I have been playing with a VOX AC30CC for the past 2 years, the amp was a impulse buy, needed a gigging amp and watched the VOX demo at a local shop and decided thats what I wanted. Never have been able to lock in "my sound" currently have the amp up for sale, after months of going from store to store trying different amps, I ordered a 65 Deluxe Reverb, that should be delivered today or tomorrow.

I went into GC almost every night after work, and this amp seemed to be the one I was looking for. Since I can't stand to buy stuff from GC went ahead and ordered if from MF the other night.

Short post turned long..... Anyone out here in our Fender Lounge have any thoughts or input on a 65 DRRI?

GC is MF. Same company.

Played a Yamaha RGX A2 through one the other day at GC. Loved the combo of clean and breakup, and this is key: the breakup just like the Blues Deluxe-- comes at just the right volume for small clubs. It's the perfect rockin db level to cook with bass and drums. And the lead tone distortion is gorgeous. Not fat and thick, but pretty and with nice snarly overtones. Tough to go wrong with this amp for blues and/or med. rock. You just won't get any "thrum" or "drub" out of it for facepaint rock. It'll give you a nice trebley snarl on the lo-end like the Nashville/Tele guys like to get, but no thunk. Actually, the Blues Deluxe has a lot more lo-end punch which is surprisingly for a single 12". The cab is just the right size for resonance. The DRRI is built to let the bass and kick handle the low end, which actually cleans up your act a lot. That's one reason why recording engineers and producers like em--the DRRI automatically cleans up all the lo-mid mud you get with a lot of amps, the bane of clean and punchy recordings.

Yeah I know MF is the same company, just like to get something new out of the box rather then having the Guitar Center Guitar Heros like me waling on it day in and day out :) ... And GC always seems to give you attitude when you ask them to get you one new out of the back, so I just try to avoid buying from the stores, and go to MF to get the same price...

Thanks for review, good info, that is the sound I am looking for...

I think I will be happy with it, just have some buyers second guessing going on.

It will also give you the classic BF clean glassy sparkle on single-coils (below 3) that I don't hear in BDs, HRDs or BJs. And they're like Hondas and Toyotas: top resale value for the life of the product.

Also, take a look ath the Custom Vibrolux Reverb, this is an awesome amp as well and it's not a bad price either, for being a custom shop creation made in the USA. I did alot of amp research and testing before deciding on a 65 Twin Reverb (RI). This is what was in the running: 1) 65 twin reverb/ ri, 2) super reverb, 3) custom vibrolux reverb and 4) 59 bassman/ ri. My only other suggestion, would be to make sure you take your own guitar to the store to try them all. The in-store guitars are not setup like your own. :D

Never played a CVR--I assume they have a lot more clean headroom than the DRRI. Are they more BF Twin or DRRI in basic sound? Breakup early (3-4) like the DRRI or late like the Twin (10-super late!)?

The CVR does have a bit more in the 'clean' department than the DRRI, in my opinion. I have never had a problem with breakup on my 65 TRRI, then again, I have never had it up past 6 on the volume. For me, the sound that came out of the 65 TRRI with my Am. Tele, was exactly what I wanted and I think you get the most bang for your buck with the 65 TRRI as well. But, I really did like the CVR sound, I thought the sound was superb, however, I didn't play it past 4 in the store. Good Luck on your quest. 8)

I had the original 85W 65 Twin for about 15 years. I liked it better as a PA head than as an amp. Same problem as my Ampeg Gemini II...TOO clean!

The DRRI is a sweet amp and 22 watts is more then sufficient for playing most gigs. Its a bit loud in the studio though.

Wasn't the street just raised from $799 to $849 on that?

Paid ended up getting it from Music123 for $799.00 plus tax. AMS still had it listed on their website for $799 and Music123 price matched it.

Interesting--the new AMS catalog I got yesterday has it listed at $849. And usually when that price kickup happens, they claim it's because Fender raised their wholesale price by $50. Anybody interested in a DRRI better move fast, this may be a permanent price rise.

I just received a new AMS as well and it was listed for $849.00, but last Friday evening (6/22) when I made the purchase it was listed at $799.99 I was going to order it from the MF but a co worker of mine told me that music123 price matches, i have tried this in the past with MF and it is always a hassle. Just went out to music123, clicked on the price guarantee sent an email that said AMS has the amp for 799, almost immediately received a response back from music123, that said that they would sell it to me for 799.

Yeah, price matching rules. But this $849 may be based on new product Fender is just now injecting into the pipeline, so when all the $799s are gone, everybody will be up at $849.

This is just what happened with the Peavey Valve King 1-12" combo. For the first 6 mos. it was always $375 everywhere. Then suddenly it jumped up to $429 and never came down again. Caveat emptor.
