What happens if you dont play a valve amp for a very very long time... Say keep it in a cupboard for 10 years then try and play it?

It warms up and gives you sweet tones..:)...seriously if it was put away in good condition there should in reality be no issues with it.

Just make sure you don't leave the tubes in there, the pins could corrode and cause problems down the road. Other than that should be just fine.

Hey Big, turning"on" an amp that's been sitting for 10yrs will send an inrush of current to all the components. IMHO the electrolytic caps would be the most susceptible to damage. ART

Thats worrying. Because i bought a 65' RI twin reverb recently and i bought it from a small guitar shop that said that theres nothign wrong with it but to my ears the reverb is almost non existant. You cant hear it just a little though.

It was second hand because a rich beginner guitarist bought it, then didnt bother with it and stuck it in his cupboard for 10 years before finally getting rid of it.

i know your gonna say, "Send it to an amp tech", but i did and the shop said it worked fine. I wana take it to the other shop but the problem is theres no amp tech there so they have to send it off.

any advice guys?

You'll be three stones heavier and get stuck in the cupboard. :D

Yeah, if the amp is quiet and everything else works, I'd say you're in good shape. I'd just check and clean the reverb cable plugs and jacks. Then make sure V3 is a good strong tube and the socket is clean, test. If necessary do the same with V4. That should do it. Nice amp. ART

I cant imagine that having set for a period of time would be a problem. The only problem I could see is that if the temp. fluctuated alot over the years there may be some corrosion.

I thought the 65 Reissue didn't come out until 1993, which would make this less than 6 years old. Don't know if the same issues apply, but care should be taken.

Could have the spring in the reverb tank got rusty? Changing the tank is an easy enough job.

The caps don't like not being used. The newer production Fender amps aren't known for using high quality caps. Before powering up, I'd look inside and make sure none are leaking.
