why is their a popping noise when you engage the standby switch on a deluxe reverb reissue?

Yeah Cap'n, the amp is being presented with a full unloaded charge of B+ voltage in one switching action that can produce an arc transmitted to the output transformer. Some people go to a higher voltage standby switch inorder to avoid this noise. But most of us just live with it,"no harm, no foul." ART

Hey Cap'n, did a little looking around, and apparently some folks think the unbridled switching is indeed harmful. Check it out at http://ampgarage.com/forum go to technical discussion, improved standby switching. It's a very cheap and simple mod. I'll probably try it on my '68 Bassman. Just be aware that your main power filter is located before the switch, that's probably why Fender didn't consider it a problem. In your case, looks like a 150k 2watt resistor would do the trick. ART
