Can't believe I'm tempted by anything Line 6, but might get the 30w version, just out of curiosity for a SS amp with a few tricks, 'phones, CD in, etc.

Anyone know what the impedance is and can you rig an attenuator to it? (What's 30w SS equal to in 'tubeland'... 15w?)

Line 6 website specifications are c**p!

If anyone from Line 6 is watching... almost enough to make me not want to bother. Sort it out boys!

30 watts, it well, 30 watts....the wattage doesnt change from SS to Tube, its the same number...and im not sure why you would need an atentuator, since its a solid state amp, with a master volume knob.

the sound you get from cranking a tube amp to overdrive and putting an attentuator on it to bring down the master volume can be achieved on the Spider iv by simply picking a channel like "blues" (modeled after a bassman or something similar), cranking the gain knob, and lowering the master volume...

hope that answers your question

Yeah, thinking about it, the attenuator is really only any use with a valve amp....

okay... end of thread! :D

Believe me, thirty watts ss is a LOT different than thirty watts from a tube amp. The line 6 does have amp modeling but......... it ain't the same as the real thing. Not even close.

It's okay folks... my moment of Line 6 madness has passed. I even sold the Pocket Pod. How anyone can really like anything Line 6 is beyond me.

I'm sure there are plenty of people that enjoy playing out of a Line 6 amp. Although I've never tried one, I'm sure it attracts many beginners that are trying to find the right sound for them. It seems like one could achieve hundreds of different guitar sounds with this thing. This thing would blow away the amp I started with. A late 80's Crate G-40. I was just happy to have 2 channels with built in reverb and chorse. It goes to show you how much technology are being put into these amps.

If my son decided to start playing guitar, I would probably start him out on an amp like this. With a Squire of course. LOL.

:) I have owned several Line 6 amps as well as their delay unit and have had SOME pleasant experiences. The effects are probably as good as any. The modeling as in many non modeling amps is in my opinion aimed at the younger players who want a more modern sound. I'm a geezer, so I prefer more vintage tone. I have owned the Line 6 HD147 and it was okay.
I have owned the Flextone III, and it was ok once dialed in to ONE useable sound, but a little light on power. I have owned the Spider head and returned it within two days. Line 6 has really good effects but too much in the of the way other features. I owned a Variax guitar, and it was great till I tried to gig with it. Never again. WAY over priced. My favorite store has a bunch of them and has trouble giving them away. Yes, I'm kinda' picky, but with the prices on equipment these days you have to be. They have their place, just not with me. That's not being a "Gear Snob", it's just my opinion. Please don't take offence.

I use a Line 6 Gearbox to record onto Cubase. Their software is quite good although I prefer Guitar-Rig II and micin up my amps. I do like the preset called 'Like Heaven'. It's gorgeous.

My first propper amp was a line 6 Flextone III and it was really good, if you plugged it into a computer the sheer amount of experimental sounds you could get out of it was massive, but sadly the distortions were something left to be desired.

Its a shame really, they were onto something with the "Spider Valve", it was a good idea but sadly when you try to use it, it doesent sound anywhere near as good as you'd hoped it was.

However line 6's pedals are very good, they really are something. Im currently in the process of saving up for one of the line 6's new M9 pedal boards. (That and an Ibanez rg2550mz)
