Hi everyone, I'm now getting into electric guitar after years of acoustic-only. I have a lovely Martin 000-16CRGTE. I recently got a Strat VG, and bought a SuperChamp XD for the ultimate in versatility. It's nice, and I like that I can choose so many amp models.
I decided to start lessons, but didn't much care to haul the SuperChamp around. I know, it's not that big...

I was able to convince my wife that I "needed" a Champion 600 due to its simplicity and ease of transport. Got one at the new low price of $149. :P

I find I really like the 600's pure tube tone, but start to think I don't really need both. I have 30 days to return the 600 for a refund. Any ideas which I should hang onto? I'm just playing for myself right now, although that could change in the far-future. Thanks in advance.

I would keep them both. Most places that offer lessons dont want you to bring an amp. They have them on site in each lesson room, ususally one for the student and one for the teacher.

Oh, I guess I should add that I also have a Fender Acoustasonic Jr amp for the Martin. Since the SuperChamp has a model of this, maybe that's the expendable amp.

BTW, the university I am taking lessons from will supply an amp if I want it. I think I just "really" wanted to try the 600, and the lowered price presented a good opportunity.

I'd plug that Martin in to the SCXD and give Voice #16 a listen. I'm guessing you'll be keeping that Acoustasonic. I think that the #16 is to make an electric guitar SOUND like an acoustic. I plug an acoustic in to the SCXD and play on the "clean" channel. It sounds good, but of course feeds back. To mellow that out, a Boss GE-7 Equalizer modulates it pretty well (if you keep the volume down to respectable levels).

Nothing can make your Martin sound like a martin like an acoustic amp ,not an electric. It will sound too compressed. When I play my acoustic live , I always plug it into a sound board .This gives the best sound IMO.It also saves not having to drag another amp around.

Ok, well, that sounds like the Acoustasonic is NOT voted off the island.

Champion 600 or SuperChamp XD?

I'd try to keep them all, figuring you can never have too many amps or guitars.

Probably why I can't move in my house anymore without climbing over things. :D

I agree with the others that it would be nice to keep both. However if you are going to only keep one I would keep the SCXD. It would be one of the last of my amps that I would get rid of. It's fairly compact and as you have already found out , has a wide range of features. I think if you take the SCXD back your going to miss it, especially as you get more into electric guitar.

It's not as if I am being coerced into selling anything - my wife's pretty decent about letting me have a few toys.
I just wonder if I'm just wasting $$ keeping both.

I keep finding I like that 600's tone. I suppose I could keep it for lessons only and sell it sometime down the line. The price was the kicker; I would never have purchased it at the $250 price tag it had a short time ago!

Thanks for your input.

Unless you need the $149 keep it. I've always regretted selling something I already had.

I agree. Even if you sell it later it won't be worth very much. If you like it, keep it as long as you think you'll use it. If not, send it back while you can get a full refund.

I've regretted selling every amp I've owned except for the HRDlx. I still grin over that sale. :D

I hope you did not sell it to a friend.

:D Nope, a total stranger and I gave him a spare set of JJ's and the rest of the 6 month warranty that was left. The amp gods are happy with me. He has till February to get it repaired if necessary on Fenders dime.

I think they'll both just stick around. I mentioned I was considering sending the 600 back and the wife said "why would you do that?"

Y'know, I do really like each of the amps for their distinctive sounds. I wish I didn't like the 600 that much, but what the heck, I could have worse vices...

They're all staying! Thanks guys. 8)
