Help....I have a 2-year-old HRD single 12 that's just started developing a slight high-pitched squeal. It only seems to occur when I'm in the More Drive mode. The feedback comes on slowly, builds, then goes away. Turning down the volume on either the Drive or Master has no affect on the feedback. If I switch out of More Drive mode, it goes away immediately.

A couple months ago, I put all new tubes in - a matched pair of SOVTEK GT6L6Bs and 3 Groove Tube 12AX7s. Thinking this might be the cause, I put all the old tubes back in & still have the issue. When I'm playing, I'm keeping both the Drive and the Master on about about '2', but like I mentioned before...when it's feeding back, I can turn the volume completely off & the feedback remains. When the feedback stops, it's like someone flips off a switch.....it's instantly off.....then builds up again in 10 -20 seconds.

Any ideas.....????

Does it squeal even if you unplug your guitar? If it does, then it's not feedback (in the usual guitar sense). If it continues to squeal with the guitar unplugged then you likely have a short somewhere. If the squeal stops when the guitar is unplugged, try shielding the guitar more.

How close are you to your amp when playing?

I have the HR DeVille 410 and play on the clean channel most of the time, every once in awhile I go to the drive channel. Mine hardly ever screams. I can get close as I want without squeal, but when I'm in the drive or more drive channels and get close, it tends to squeal some.

Yes....the squeal can occur when the guitar is unplugged. It also doesn't matter how close I stand to the amp. I can be right in front of it or across the stage. Wireless or direct connect.

Check your preamp tubes.

If it occurs with the guitar unplugged, the problem is the amp, most likely a tube needs replacing.

I've owned 2 of these amps from different model years and I also have the high pitched squeel. I just keep the Drive knob down to around 2 and this cures the problem and still gives the grit that I need. Also try plugging in to the 2nd jack on your amp.
