Hello! My opinion only but I would go for the Egnater myself. I've seen quite a bit of post over the past several months containing complaints and problems with the hotrod series. I can't speak from personal experience as I've not owned or tried either. Just wait and you will get a lot of response on this subject. There are always 2 sides to every thing so.... Good luck my friend!

Of course you need to test drive the Egnater before buying. Might not be your cup of tea!

I dumped my HRDlx for an Egnater Rebel 20 and couldn't be happier. The Rebel 30 is a bit different. It is a 2 channel amp with separate controls for reverb and wattage. The reverb is digital but sounds really good to me. The channels are footswitchable. One channel is clean and one is for gain. It also is coming out in a head version. That's the way I'd go. It just blows the HRD away in tone and build quality.

Wow everyone seem to prefer the rebel's, can the rebel 20 keep up with a full band without breaking up???? I'm looking for a good clean amp and the OD's with some stompboxes

It's a 20 watt amp. I'd use a 2x12 cab if you're real loud. The Rebel sounds pretty clean and gets loud. The more air you move, the better off you'll be. Any 20 watt amp will eventually break up. I use mine in a 5 piece band from time to and have really good headroom. I'm going to add another 1x12 cabinet on the next sale.

I'm one of the people who has had really good luck with the 2 HRD's I have owned. I have a Tweed HRD now and love the tone. I am becoming curious about the Egnaters with all the buzz going on about them now.

If you are within close proximity to a guitar store that carries both amps then I would suggest to go and try them both out. Let your ears do the talking.

I'd go for the rebel 20 head myself (If I didn't have my Ampeg ^^). As many previous posters have said, it's a great amp for the price, and as an ex-Hot Rod owner I can say it is better than the hot rod (IMHO of course).

thanx 4 all your comments, I'm definitely going 4 an egnater amp, now my question is if the rebel 30 is too much of an amp and instead go 4 the rebel 20, I appreciate all the help!

The thing about the rebel that makes it so flexible is both the 30 and 20 go down to 1 watt.To be the question becomes 1-is the 20 going to be to small? If you dont have the option of miking it you could run out of head room or 2-do i really need to carry around a 40 lb amp if the 20 will be enough. There are advantages of the 30 which are 2 channels and reverb(digital).I am still considering both of those and am leaning toward the 20 because it will be easy to transport and it would basically be replacing my blues jr , which is a single channel amp.Just my 2 cents.

The 20 suits my needs just fine. I'm going with a second 1x12 for larger gigs. It just depends on what you need. Anyway you look at it, It's an incredibly well built and great sounding amp.

So the rebel 20 beats the hell out of the blues junior, yo guys are convincing me of getting the 20 haha, if seen some mods for the hot rod and the blues jr. but I don't really like to mod an amp not that I have something against that but I prefer to have the amp as it is, I like moddded pedals though
