Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum, but I have been playing for a number of years. I recently purchased the Super Champ XD so I came here to read about mods.

It seems the two most popular speaker mods are the Celestion G10 Greenback Vintage and the Eminence Ragin Cajun. The Cajun is about $65 street and the Celestion can be found for close to that.

Each speaker will screw into the Fender Cab pre-drilled holes with no modification and both can be purchased in 8 ohm versions.

I found a superchamp cab on ebay with no amp. I decided to buy a Cajun to put into that cab and do a side by side comparison with different guitars. Both are 8 ohm speakers, so I just swapped the plug between cabs and left the guitar settings the same.

Note: Both speakers are new and have not had any play in time.

Using a Fender American Deluxe the Greenback immediately improved the tonal fullness and bass of the Superchamp. Beautiful round sound with a lot of clarity. There is a definite wow factor here and is an easy mod on these amps.

I then used a 1961 Gretsch Chet Atkins Nashville through the amp. It was a very good sound and very pleasant but the Strat definitely sounded a little better to my ear through the Greenback.

Changing over to the Ragin Cajun the Strat sounded very nice, but it seemed to take off when I plugged in the Gretsch. The filtertrons can create a very smooth overdrive and the Cajun really ate that up. The Cajun broke up beautifully when using the overdriven channels on the Superchamp. It also maintained a lot of clarity with very bell like tones.

I will continue to test and mod this thread, but first impressions are that the Greenback stays truer to that Fender sound, while the Cajun seems to be a great choice for a humbucker equipped guitar.

As a side note, I hooked up the Gretsch into an Epiphone Valve Jr head into the Ragin Cajun/fender cab and it really sounded amazing. I am renaming that little 5w amp "Angry Little Bastard".

Right now my choice for the Strat is the Greenback equipped cab and for the Gretsch it is the Cajun. My first impression is that either of these speakers is a great choice for this little powerhouse amp. Unless I was hearing them side by side it would be tough to be displeased with either.

I will check back after playing more.

Great post!!! If you want to really hear that amp sing..plug a Tele into it...IMO it is even better. My Strat sounds great through it...but my Tele...the next level..it is very hard to stop playing...fortunately I have an incredible wife who loves my playing. I really love the Super Champ...fantastic amp..it is now my main amp...my marshall is what I run my Strat through.

What a great way to change speakers without actually changing speakers. Great idea.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a friend with a Tele, so I may have him come by and do a little test for me. It did not say in your post. Are you using the Greenback?
