Groove Tubes bought it’s present building in August of 2000. The new GT home has close to 12,000 feet of office, lab, and manufacturing space and is located in the small town of San Fernando, California. The new building has allowed expansion into actual tube production, and Aspen was blessed to be able to acquire the entire production line from the old G.E. company upon it’s closing. This line will produce the original GE 6L6 and 6CA7 power tubes to the original specs and sound. Actually, at NAMM 2002 in Anaheim GT proudly introduced the first effort from this adventure, showing the new GT6L6-GE to rave reviews...it was generally confirmed this new GT tube is the exact equal of the famous 6L6. Jimi Hendrix recorded many of his hits with this tube in his Fender Twin Reverb.

Excerp from history section.

I finnally got a tube tester because my tubes were giving me trouble. I found out that after only 6 months of owning my brand new amp, every single preamp tube has gone bad. All Sovteks rebranded as GT's. That just doesnt seem right to me.

Similar problem with the SRRI. Is strange that after a few months of practicing a few hours a week they'd be bad. I'm currently looking for replacement tubes.

For the 5AR4 power tube, any suggestions? The Fender tube got some good reviews. Anyone know the story on it? First I've heard about them.

The 5AR4 is a rectifier tube. I've used the Sovtek branded tube with good results, although the JJ brand seems to be well liked.

Yes, sorry. Been up to my ears in tubes today. Definitely the solo Rectifier tube in the amp. Thanks for the suggestions.

I would look for a NOS Rectifier tube. They just seem to hold up better.

+ 1 on the NOS tube if you can afford it. Last time I checked Tube Depot though, NOS was going for $140 each. Sovtek and JJ's are going for $15 to $20.
