Does the Ragin Cajun only really make the SCXD sound louder, or does it make it sound 'fuller' too?

I'm pretty happy with the SCXD's stock speaker at the lowish volumes I use it for, but I'm at the 'fiddling' stage with it, so I'd like to hear what a RC might do – both the positives and the negatives (if any).

(If it makes any difference – I only really use the clean channel, often cranked up to 7, with a THD attenuator.)

Slow,
I heard it the other day and IMO it does both...gives a nice full sound...personally I am going to upgrade mine to a G10 Vintage 10 Celestion. Hope that this helps.

The speaker's got a great rep. You'll never blow it out either. It's rated at 75 watts. Some people like a little speaker break up, but it's all personal taste. Weber speakers are nice too.

Pro's:
Louder, fuller, more headroom, nice tight bottom end crisp bell like high's.

Con's:
LOUD, but only if you think the super champ is already too loud.

I have one of these in a 40W open back combo tube amp and I am very pleased with the sound. Once broken in it sounds amazing for a 10" speaker. I set it up so that I can attach a 212 closed back ported cabinet with a pair of celestion g12's in parallel with the ragin' cajun in my combo and the combined tones are freakin' awesome.

You can't go wrong with this speaker but like one of the previous posted replied, a celestion would be great too. Bottom line is it's gonna depend on the sound that appeals to you and what you wanna spend. Good luck.

Thanks chaps.

I also have a Hot Rod 1x12 cab, but for use at home I think I even prefer the SCXD's standard 10".

Any suggestions if I decide (also) to upgrade the cab? Maybe a Ragin Cajun in the SCXD and a G12 Vintage in the cab?

Third option: sell the cab, get another SCXD – run one with a G10 Vintage and the other with a Ragin Cajun... and maybe use one for experiments with tubes and so on.

Funny... in business I'm 'Mr Decisive', but when it comes to 'toys' I'm all over the place!

Just a thought but if you get rid of you 1x12 then you're gonna be loosing most of your bottom end. It's my opinion that 10" speakers usually lack somewhat in the low end, so do you really wanna get rid of it? I'm thinking maybe 212 cab instead? Keep your 10 stock in the scxd and get a nice extension cabinet. Just my 2 cents.

At low-ish volumes I don't seem to be getting more bottom end from the Hot Rod cab. It's brighter and colder than the stock SCXD.

Not sure, having tried the external cab, that I need more than a 10" (whatever it is) for my volumes and the room I use.

When you say get a nice cab, is the Hot Rod 1x12 cab/speaker not very highly rated?

My bad, I didn't mean to imply that the Hot Rod 1x12 wasn't a nice cab. It's a great cab. I was just thinking two twelves instead of just one. And your right about 10" speakers, I believe the vibro king is fitted with nothing but 10" speakers. It's just that on my 1x10 combo I get tons more low end when I parallel in a 212 cab. Not that I don't get it with just my 10", just a lot more with the cab. I have to admit though, I do play with the volume levels past noon so my situation differs from yours. Bottom line, if you like the stock speaker, keep it. Either way if you do replace it, i'm sure you'll be more than satisfied with the ragin' cajun. I definately was. :)
