Hi!

I have a -96 Hot Rod Deville 2x12 and it suddenly started to make a big hum on all channels, THEN it started to hiss, fizz & fart and the fuse blow.

Any tips, hints on what coulda happened.

Could be anything, but first I'd have the tubes checked.
Especially the power tubes, they have a way of taking out other things like the fuse when they go bad.

Yep. A shorted power tube could do that.

fhopkins, That's how I fixed my Hot Rod Problem. I'm getting ready to add a second 1x12 Egnater cabinet to make this thing a full micro stack. The funny thing is, even at 20 watts, The Rebel still cuts the mix better than my HRDlx ever did. I've been gigging with just a spare set of tubes and fuses and no second amp. That's how much faith I have in this thing. I will probably retire my Twin.

That's cool ! A stack sure looks good and I'm sure it pushes more air! Those Twin Reverbs do get heavy for us old men! :)

Age is just another ride on this rock around the Sun. It means nothing to me. That Twin was heavy when I was a kid too! :D

That could be it, thanx! I recently changed the power tubes to a pair of Red GTs that sounded great in another 6L6 amp i once had. Couldnt get the bias higher than 63mV! Ill try putting the old ones back and see how it works out.

Preffered weapons: Gretsch 6131FT & -87 Strat American Std.

Are both tubes glowing? When I couldn't bias my HRDlx above 62mv it wound up bad solder joints on the power tubes.

I changed back to the old tubes and - WHOAH- it works again. Could bias to 68mV now with the trimpot somewhere round 12. Now I have quite a annoying hum back, which was why I changed the tubes in the first place.
Probably some bad grounding somewhere causing the hum.

I used to run JJ's in my HRDlx at 82mv. Sounded pretty good. If I were you, I'd dump the Groove Tubes. I've never had any luck with them but YMMV.

Oh, and sorry, welcome to the forum. I'm the notorious Hot Rod series hater because I had a rash of bad times and reliability issues with my HRDlx. I repaired them with an Egnater Rebel 20.

Hey supro, quick question. I know how dissatisfied you are with the GT's so I'm curious as to what type of tubes you swapped out on your rebel 20? Last I checked the rebel's came stock with gt's. I personally don't have anything against them and think they are great sounding tubes, as made evident by the rebel 20 that I had the pleasure to play at my local music store. Is is more of a reliability issue that you've had with them? Just curiouse cause i'm in the market for new tubes for my trri.
Thanks.

Oh, and welcome to the forum, Nilzon.
