You can look at the manual in advance on the Egnater site.

Your seriously going to love the Egnater. I play more than I ever have. This amp is absolutely awesome. Built like a tank, and tone to the bone.

Excellent! "Tank" is great! Just got confirmation from Music123 that the whole thang shipped and should be here Monday. Holding thumbs for it to happen...

I have another question for you.

Do amps and speakers need to be "broken in" to get great sound?

I'm an old time radio guy and there was -- and is, I guess -- always an argument if new headphones had to be "broken in" or not to get the best sound out of them. I was always on the side that an older set of cans sounded better than those fresh out of the box, but others said it was/is physically and scientifically impossible that "breaking them in" had any effect whatsoever on the quality of sound produced.

I know some people think a tube amp needs burn in time and that any sort of speaker also need to be "exercised" with sound to produce the best results -- but is there any truth in that or is it all a folk tale?

To complicate matters a little in my mind, the Evidence Audio cable included with my Gilmour NOS claims you won't get the best sound out of the cable until you've used it for 20 hours! Huh? They enclosed card claims 10 hours is enough to start to really "hear" the capabilities of the cable, but it will take 20 to fully break in the sound. That whole paragraph I wrote sounds like the definition of witchcraft! SMILE!

I bought a second, more expensive Evidence Audio cable with "silent plug" technology -- turns out the Evidence Audio cables are quite noisy! I went back to my 100% Mogami cable setup and everything is quiet again. The Mogami Silent Plug Platinum guitar cable is worth every cent spent in the pops, bangs, and hisses it cures.

Yep they do. Just play it. Crank it up a bit. Mine sounded great right out of the box and only gets better. I'm not sure about cables though. I did replace some of my old cables with George L's .255's and really like them a lot. Really quiet and they added slightly more bottom end to my Strat.

The amp doesn't come with a cable to connect the amp and head. You'll need to pick one up. Don't use a guitar cable, use a speaker cable. I got a six footer so I can put the head somewhere else if I want to. I think I picked up a 12 or 16 gauge. I can't remember.

Thanks! Do you have a link for the cables you use?

Supro, got another chance at the rebel20 today and I really like the tones you can get.Had a little more time to play around with it and I think its a great amp.I see they also had the 30 watt combo, but I didnt have time to play around with it.It seems the biggest difference between the 2 aside from the fact that its a combo was it had 2 channels and reverb. To be honest , i use my bassman alot , so the absence of reverb isnt a huge problem.I am honestly thinking of craiglisting my 75 super reverb. It is a great amp, but at 85 lbs its just too heavy to lug around at gigs.I dont record , so its not like i need it for my studio. I am basically a weekend warrior who plays out maybe 2 times maybe 3 a month.Besides my bassman is somewhat more portable and it covers the 4-10s area pretty good.I hate equipment just collecting dust when there is a perfectly nice Egnater waiting to be used.

boles,

I can imagine the anticipation you're feeling this weekend...

You did your research, conversed with knowledgeable peers, and decided on the perfect new piece of gear. You then used your ninja-like google skills to find the best deal on the web (coupon and free shipping included, of course). Then you charged it; no questions asked. You're getting EXACTLY what you want, but you ordered it on a FRIDAY...

Now you have to play the waiting game, getting annoyed by the "no mail on Sunday" crap -- I want my new toy NOW!! -- and counting the business days until you come home to a shiny new cardboard box sitting on your doorstep. We've all played that game before...

I'm jealous. I would love to be waiting on a Rebel to be shipped to my door. They're awesome amps. Have fun with it.

Ha! That's it! You described the process. Now it's a waiting game. No real Ninja skills had to be played, though, because the 20% discount was posted here in the forum and I'd seen it online too because Musician's Friend is moving to a new database setup and they melted for about 18 hours online and, as an apology, they gave us a 20% discount at Music123 for our trouble.

Without the discount, I don't think I would've pulled the trigger so quickly. Music123 also made the database change, but their upgrade went smoother.

Music123 first told me I'd have the stuff on Monday, then later on in the day, they said it would be Tuesday. Since I was a "new" customer -- even though I had plenty of purchases from Musician's Friend... my order was on a 24-hour verification delay.

I was able to get to the Music123 verification department and they confirmed the delay. A little bit of pleading and a lot of begging got me a chance of a Monday delivery if two supervisors went along with the plan.

The verification supervisor had to convince the warehouse supervisor that I had been promised Monday delivery -- and that was a solid promise documented in my order notes -- and they would then "try to make it happen" for Monday even though they didn't promise me that since the delivery cutoff time was an hour past (I'd been previously told the cutoff window was two hours in the future from the point of my pleading).

A few hours later, I had UPS tracking info in my Inbox for Monday delivery! Music123 came through for me.

I'm overall much more impressed with Music123 than with Musician's Friend -- even though they're "sisters" -- because Music123 seems less busy, they are more eager for your business, and they're friendlier on the phone.

Okay. I have Mogami speaker cables I'm using with my Blackheart -- I'll see if they give the Egnater a good run.

UPDATE:

The Egnater Rebel 20 and Half Stack arrived today. I am so far pleased with the sound and I will write a more lengthy review soon.

I have a few questions:

1. The Egnater is incredibly versatile. Is there a need for a 65 Princeton now? Does anyone have direct experience with both?

2. The fabric cover over the speaker looks wrong. It's like 1/4 one color and 3/4 another color. Is this standard? It appears to be the same fabric, but not the same warp and woof. It's a bizarre look.

3. Is there any heat output differential between the 1 watt and 20 watt setting?

4. Which will give you richer sound at apartment practice levels? Setting the watts to 20 and the guitar volume at 4? Or dropping the watts to 10 and upping the guitar volume to 7?

Thanks!

boles,
1- It's up to you.

2- Yes the grill cloth's correct. It's called salt and pepper grill cloth.
Personally, I like the look.

3- I'm not sure about the heat. The ventilation is great on this amp, I wouldn't be concerned about it.

4- I would play with the tight and bright switches and the tone controls as well as the tube mix. With the tight switch down the bottom end is richer. It all depends on your ears, taste and guitar.

Keep trying different things. It takes a little while to learn how things work.

Ok thanks.

I wasn't clear about the cloth cover. I like it, too, but mine appears to be two separate pieces and one side seems to be sewn upside down so the two halves don't match. It's pretty ugly looking. I'll post a pic in my in-depth review later.
