Once again just listen to the left channel on Guns N' Roses Appetite For Destruction.
Stradlin's 'just breakin up' chops and lines are amazing!

heck, a cranked pro jr gets pretty deep into hard rock land

i saw the dude from Anvil using a couple DRRI's on VH1 Classic. and yes, i believe they were mic'd, so it wasn't for eyes only.
quoth Dee Snyder: "THAT IS SO UNMETAL" (about both the fender amps and the mic's)

Yes Lads you will find the occasional hard rocker who used/uses Fender amps (Pagey even played a Danelectro once in a while, the most UN-hard rock guitar of all time). But by and large, hard rock and especially heavy metal is not what Fender amps are best suited to.

I bought my scxd because I love the clean tones I can get from it. However I also love the fact the I can dial in some classic AC/DC, ZZ Top, and Black Sabbath. Not to mention that some of the higher gain channels make it easy to get some of the old 80's metal tones. Like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. It also takes very well to my Boss MT-2 distortion pedal for some classic Metallica. I know that it wouldn't be the right amp for some of todays heavier music but I think it's a very versatile amp for all types of music.

Fender amps are the bomb for that clean "Fender tone" even distorted it's easily identifiable (which is not really a hard rock or heavy metal tone). What I'm saying is, you are not going to find many metal and hard rock acts that use Fender amps.

:!: Blues players - YES
:!: Rockabilly players - YES

:!: Detuned, overly distorted, "oh I'm sooo heavy" players - NO

:D But who knows, maybe you can start a trend :D

Reggae and Ska too. I see more Fenders used than any other amp at our shows.

True Dat! Didn't intentionally ignore the Reggae and Ska scene.

Watch any Rolling Stones concert footage and you'll see a wall of Fender Tweeds, Brownface, and Blackface amps behind them.

Brother Toast, with all due respect to the longevity of the act I would NEVER call the Stones a Hard Rock or Heavy Metal band. :D So the fact that they use Fender amps is totally irrelevant to this thread.

I hear you. But, I also see people mentioning Clapton and Neil Young - neither of which I would lump in the "hard rock" genre either.

I do believe that the Rolling Stones were considered a "hard rock" act back in the day. Along with the Beatles and the Who. We just don't look at them that way these days. But they do play the Stones on our hard rock/heavy metal radio station here in Chicago.

I also Neil Young uses Fender amps. I know he's not considered a "hard rocker" but I remember him rocking out with Pearl Jam back in the mid 90's.

My considerable wisdom on the subject of Neil Young's "rockness" (which really means that I went to one show) suggests that he rocks harder than just about anyone else I've ever seen. He uses a '59 Deluxe (the three-knob version) with a device called the whizzer on top of it; this allows him to mechanically manipulate the amp's controls by way of the big red pedalboard at his feet. It's an ingenious setup, and his tone is top notch.

Hey, Hey, My, My (Into The Black) might be one of the nastiest speaker breakups ever recorded. I believe that is the whizzer in action.

Page supposedly had a thing for Supro Thunderbolt's too. :D

Various Supros were what he used as well as myriad other amps, but don't ever recall a DR.

Ted Nugent is a huge Fender guy - used to play with a wall of Fender twins set to stun.

I saw Them Crooked Vultures' first show and both Josh Homme (also of Queens of the Stone Age) and Alain Johannes were using Super Reverbs CRANKED. I think Josh had a very mild OD on the amp from his Maestro MPF-1, but that's it. Rocked very hard.

Then, I use a DRRI and I play harder rock, as well. But I'm a no body. I've gone through the Marshalls and Peaveys and tried out the Mesas and so on. Fact of the matter is, just about every amp on the market is based off of a Fender, so I stuck with the original. (And the amp that probably makes the sound guys and bar owners the happiest  )
