Does anybody know if any hard rock or heavy metal bands use Fender amps?

Izzy Stradlin plays live with a Fender Blues DeVille and records with a Fender Deluxe Reverb RI and recorded Appetite for Destruction with a Fender Bassman head through a Mesa cab which he also used live til the Use Your Illusion days.

Lots of hard rock bands use Fender, mine included.

Pete Townshend of the Who uses a Vibro King stacked on an extension cab. Clapton used a Tweed Twin at the Cream reunion.

Bluzdawg from the.....hmmm, thats me, I haven't thought of a band name yet since I've only started about 6 months ago. But, some day folks you'll see me in lights, and when you do, I'll be play in through my '65 DRRI for some serious blues! When I need to keep in down, it's a Champion 600. Love that little beast.

Just had to jump in and say that. I'm a late bloomer, started at 50, but never hurts to dream my friends. Life is too short

Follow your dreams bluzdawg. Life is short, indeed. Nothing like an adoring audience who doesn't want you to stop to make you appreciate the ability to deliver the mail live. It happens at the craziest momensts.

It's not hard rock or heavy metal, but Trey Anastasio uses a modified Deluxe Reverb. That's one of the reasons why I bought one.

I also Neil Young uses Fender amps. I know he's not considered a "hard rocker" but I remember him rocking out with Pearl Jam back in the mid 90's.

Pearl jam:
'65 Fender spring reverb unit
'59 Fender Bassman Reissue tweed
'59 Twin tweed

Red Hot Chili Peppers:
Fender Dual Showman Silverface head

You can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Jimi Hendrix sometimes used fenders in the studio to record some of his music but always played live with marshalls.

Hope this helps.

The Fender sound is not really identified with heavy metal. Although some of their modern amps have a wicked gain on them. For that matter a lot of heavy metal guitarists avoid Fenders because the guitar sounds too thin and not heavy and chunky enough.

However I play hard rock and metal with my Strats just fine.

That's right Bluzdawg, I'm 53, and have rubbed elbows with the Big Boys, and had my 15 minutes more than once. I still dream of something perm. I won't give up!

They make pedals for the different sounds and styles a person wants, but nothing beats a Blackface for tone, nothing! Stack the Marshals for looks, but mike the Blackface for sound!

Fender amps are the bomb for that clean "Fender tone" even distorted it's easily identifiable (which is not really a hard rock or heavy metal tone). What I'm saying is, you are not going to find many metal and hard rock acts that use Fender amps.

:!: Blues players - YES
:!: Rockabilly players - YES
:!: Country players - YES
:!: Jazz players - YES
:!: 50's players - YES
:!: Surf players - YES

:!: Detuned, overly distorted, "oh I'm sooo heavy" players - NO

:D But who knows, maybe you can start a trend :D

My considerable wisdom on the subject of Neil Young's "rockness" (which really means that I went to one show) suggests that he rocks harder than just about anyone else I've ever seen. He uses a '59 Deluxe (the three-knob version) with a device called the whizzer on top of it; this allows him to mechanically manipulate the amp's controls by way of the big red pedalboard at his feet. It's an ingenious setup, and his tone is top notch.
