After lots of research and careful consideration I bought this amp last Thursday. i was going to get a Blues Jr but it was to much for the space that I play in and the 600 fit the bill perfect!!!

love the tones I am getting so far!!! but...

At about 8 or 9 on the volume I get a terrible rattle. Not like a speaker buzz but a rattle. Any ideas??? The guitar center said they would xchange it but I am trying to avoid the trip if possible.

also what tubes would you recommend to replace the originals with?
I eventually will replace the speaker with the Weber but want to do the tubes sooner.

And is anybody running a Boss BD-2 in front of one of these? if so how does it sound. Am thinking of getting the Boss BD-2 and a Boss 65 Deluxe Reverb.

Opinions ??????

thanks

I replaced both of them with some JJ's. Also tried a V1 EHX 12ax7 tube but it popped and crackled. The JJ's are noticably better than the stock ones. Smoother.

Before you replace the speaker, give it a couple of weeks. It will sound a lot better once it's worked in.

I sometimes run my modded BD-2 in front of it, mostly as a booster to get more volume, other times as a way to get a little more grit at lower sound levels. It tightens the bass a little but for the most part the sounds doesn't really change. Just louder. The BD-2 can be pretty transparant.

The rattle may be the speaker. Mine did this the first weeks. It may also be the tubes or even something in the cab or inside the chassis. If the amp is off and you knock on it, can you hear the same rattle?

By the way, does yours hum and buzz, even without a guitar plugged in?

Timp, are you getting any kind of crunch at lower volumes? I remember one of the reasons you passed up the Blues Jr was no headphone jack.

No I am not, I will soon be in the market for a good OD pedal or distortion pedal. It starts to break up at about 8 or nine and is real nice there or at 10 is real sweet, but that is when I get tha horrible rattle. I did buy that one off of the floor though so hopefully the new one, due in on tuesday, will be cool.

But you can't be the cleans at the lower volumes, so smooth and creamy.

Well boys now I have my "perfect" amp. I got some JJ's and a Weber speaker and installed them Wednesday night and HOLY CRAP!!!

The hum is gone, that God awful crackling is gone. Just sweet sweet $@! tone.

Next on the list a reverb pedal and a OD pedal.

Now all I have to do is learn tp play better!!!! :D

Glad you're liking it better. Still no crunch without the OD pedal? I thought Fender tweaked the original design to give more crunch.

In Fender's words, "We added a higher-gain preamp circuit to let the overdriven tone exceed that of the original, and we added a choice of high- or low-gain inputs." Hmm.

BTW, I went with the Vibro-Champ XD. I'm still checking it out to see what it can do.

Yes I am getting a little bit of crunch at lower volumes now but that lady upstairs (my wife) is always telling me to turn it down. I rarely have it above 4 or maybe five. So iam hoping to get a pedal that will give me what I am looking for at about 3 or 4 if that is possible.

Either that or just get single. :D  :D
