It was available as a limited edition for a while, I don't think they still produce a tweed hot rod atm. You can always try and find one used though ^^

Try ebay my friend, you might find one there, there also some other colors available like red, green, white, blue and purple, but I guess you are looking for the vintage looks uh?

It was offered 2 years ago through the MI dealers; our other guitar player picked one up in tweed and it's a great amp for the price.

Supro has a point.A tweed one new usually runs about 900 bucks at least. For that kind of money an egnater 30 or a DRRI , but to be honest i only paid 350 used for my 59 Bassman ri and it smokes the HRDX.It also comes in tweed.

The tweed covering doesn't make it sound any better. The Jenson might make it slightly better. But it won't help all the reliability issues the HRD series have.

Hey budglo, I put a 5751 Jan Phillips NOS tube in V1 in the Egnater and it made a sweet thing even better. It knocked the gain down about 30%. The gain is a bit more creamy and not so much in the metal realm. It's a beautiful round tone. What a great amp. It was SlapChops suggestion and it worked out great. It's a seriously quiet tube. I bet it might help the gain problems with the HRD series.

Thats a great idea, i have a blues deluxe I could try it with. Its not as harsh as the hr, but I am all about creamy overdrive.I have been using my ts-9 lately.I bet i stop by GC to play thru the egnater once a week now.I checked out a blackheart amp too and the egnater has a much better clean imo.I think for my needs the 20 is what i am looking for .Tonewise the Blues jr cant get anywhere near the clean the Egnater can.I will try the 5751 and see how she sounds. Thanks for passing it on.

Excellent point - at the time the guitar player was upgrading from a broken Hartke SS amp, so getting him to buy anything that worked was important, and could only drag him to a local Sam Ash. I think at the time he paid $600 for a floor model.

So far he hasn't had problems with it, but sounds like others here have. We'll keep a watch out for it and keep fingers crossed.

It's also why I always keep a Smokey Amp in my guitar case - if the amp dies, I can plug that into the speakers and get a fairly good tone. Good fun for $25.

Is it harmful to an amp to use a 8ohm cab to a 16 ohm output of an amp?

Sky, it's not a good practice. The output section runs the risk of overheating. ART

That is what I thought. A buddy of mine stayed the weekend and we had a small jam all weekend. He owns a Peavey Classic 30 and was running his 2X12 cab which is rated at 8ohms and output is 16ohm on his amp.

Thanks for the help. Will pass it along.
