Hello,

I play a '89 American Strat and find I get a bad buzz on the Super Champ XD when using the Neck, Middle and Bridge pickups exclusively. No matter how I set the tone, gain, volume control and no matter which voice is selected, it buzzes.

If I switch to one of the "in between" setting on the Strat, the buzz cleans up, but this really limits the versatility of the guitar on this amp.

What's the problem? Do I need new tubes? Is it a bad amp? Should I get new pickups?

Have you tried switching to a different guitar cable? It may sound weird, but I have one cable that makes my SCXD buzz terribly. This may not fix the problem, but it's worth looking into. 8)

good advice, but I've tried three different cables. Same buzz with each.

If the noise goes away when you use the "between" settings, that certainly does sound like it is the pickups.
Are you playing in a room with lots of lights, TV, Computer, etc??

yeah, that may be the problem. I've got the amp in my home office, which has overhead florescents and my computer monitor. Good point. I'll bring it up to the living room, where there's none of that stuff, and give it a try. Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, it's 60 cycle hum common for single coils. Add some sheilding to the body cavity and pickguard of the strat.... Or change to SCN Noiseless pickups...

Want to try an easy, and cheap, fix? This did it for me.

The buzz is/are those two flimsy boards mounted on the back. Remove the 4 screws on each. Put some foamy type material on the back side between the boards and the main sides of amp. Remount/Screw back down the two boards (also tighten the 4 screws to the tube protection metal cage on the upper board).

Bet it's fixed.
