I have read about biasing an amp in connection with changing tubes, but don't understand what this means.

If you buy "matched pair" tubes, does the amp need to be biased?

In the Vintage Guitar issue with the Gibson Korinas on the front, the guy who writes the Amp-o-rama colum even suggests mixing tubes of different brands to see how you can change your tone.I think you're supposed to know more about tube amps than I do before attempting something like this

Correctly biased the output tubes work as a pair.
If not, they can run to cold or to hot (shorter lifespan) also the amp
may be ''hummin'' more or just doesn't sound right.

Biasing of an amplifier should not be attempted if you don't have prior knowledge and a good understanding of vacuum tube based amplifier circuits. It's best left to a technician in most cases.

Take it to a shop. Its worth every dime you spend!

I like to tinker. Guitar set up, modifications, pickups, etc. Incorrectly done, biasing can mess something up.
