I recently picked up a Champion 600 just for fooling around on (and cuz it's cute as heck). It sounds good "as is" but I'm a chronic modder so I know I won't leave it alone. I've heard folks suggest changing out the stock speaker for a Jensen or possibly a Weber. Anyone have a particular model Jensen in mind (all I can find in a 6" is the MOD series)? Same question regarding the Weber speaker. And before someone suggests it . . . the tubes have already been upgraded. Thanks in advance

Watford Valves in the UK (yes I know, not much good to you) have 3 Webber speakers as replacements for the stock speaker in the Champ 600. Apparently they are low break up, medium break up and high break up, so are good for adjusting headroom if thats your thing. Maybe they will identify these models for you to acquire in California?

They have a web presence so might be worth a look

Have you looked into Weber?

You'll have to do the famous "shim the chasis" mod to your Champ if you want to fit the Weber alnico speaker in. Otherwise you won't be able to fit the 6V6 tube back in. The mod is all over the net and I think on Weber's page too. Or you could make a new speaker baffle.

I've heard most ceramic speakers will fit just fine without modification.

I haven't changed the speaker in my Champ 600 yet, but have been doing a lot of research on it. I think I'm going to change the super thick blanket grill cloth to REAL amp grill cloth first and evaluate the sound before buying a new speaker.
