Alright I'm looking to take a step up from my Frontman 25R into the world of tubes.

I've narrowed myself down to the Fender Hot rod deluxe and the Peavey Delta blues.

I know Peavey gets bashed quite a bit, but their "classic" series seem pretty sold amps.
I have tested out both amps, and still cant make a decision, so i came here looking for some input.

I know this is a fender board and i'm most likely to get some biased information. but... whatever...

The peavey is about 200 bucks cheaper, and has a 15" speaker. while i think the deluxe is rated at a higher output.

So all input on either amp, good or bad would be nice..
as well as some some ideas of other comparable amps i should check out.

thanks in advance.

Trukis,

I think you'll be suprised at just how biased against the HRD many people on this forum really are. There are a couple of long running threads on the subject.

Yeah, i just recently noticed that. It seems like an amp that you either love, or hate.

In that price range, I'd go with the Peavey. It's a good sounding reliable amp. I played out of a borrowed 115 once and thought it was pretty cool. The Egnater Rebel 20 is only about $150 more and is a lot more versatile. I guess you saw that #$@&%$@ though huh? :D

Guitar Center and MF sells them. It's a 20 watt head and 1x12 cab and it also comes as a 30 watt combo. Seriously worth a look if you can. If not the Peavey's are great. The 115 sounded great with my Strat.

Yes, MF is Musician's Friend.

And Egnater has Rebel distribution in every province but Saskatchewan.

Check this map.

BTW, I own a Rebel 20 and it's awesome.

Where are you in Canada?
Cosmo Music has the full Egnater line in their store.
and the Arts in Newmarket had the Rebel 20 in stock.

Unfortunately neither of their sites lists any product on-line
http://www.cosmomusic.ca/
http://www.theartsmusicstore.com/

Long&Mcquade chain ( The GC of Canada  ) and Steve's music dont appear to cary them yet.

+1 for the Egnater Rebel.

Played through one at guitar center and, although I wasn't able to run it through its paces, I really liked what I heard. The versatility is awesome. The only downside for me is the lack of that classic fender spring reverb. But if I was in order for a new "main" amp, this would be it.

The delta blues amps are really nice, but they're big and HEAVY. I'd recommend the Egnater or a Deluxe Reverb Reissue.

Keep in mind that, looking back two years from now, you'll be happier about playing the amp that you wanted than you would be about the $150 you saved by buying a lesser amp.

I don't miss the reverb. The HRDlx's reverb is anything but classic because it's not tube driven. It's pretty horrible compared to my Twin. You can always get an outboard Fender unit for the Rebel and run it in the loop.
The Rebel is built like a tank. When you crank it, it just drips unbelievable tone.

yeah, I was referring to the reverb on my deluxe.

The GC near me has a used Rebel head. I would love to add it to the lineup.

Alright, this egnater looks absolutely superb. i am located in kitchener, and pretty much all the dealers i can find are a good drive away.

I would really like to check one of these out but as i am not yet driving, getting there might be an issue. but we'll see.

The half stack looks nice though, the price is a little steep for me, but i might be able to scrounge a few hundred more dollars.

Oh yeah, and how loud would the half stack be?
