A '65 Deluxe Reverb – perfecto if you can get one for the money. You might try a dozen amps in a store and with all the distractions, not really be able to evaluate them properly. I'd go with the thousands of pro's who use these..."let their ears be yours!"

Too loud for my needs, but I still can't help lusting after one.

I agree. DRRI. A 5e3 is only around 12 watts and would probably need to be mic'd to play with a drummer depending on how aggressive the drummer is.

Hello,

I am from Aus too, that sort of money would get you a great amplifier. My best advice would be to try a range of them out and don't limit yourself to just Fender amps because there are other great amps out there. You will have to consider if you want a Valve of Solid State amp also. But as mentioned earlier it is the guitarist that makes the amplifier sound good, any great guitarist could make even the basic amplifiers sound good.

I agree, DRRI! I was able to pick one up at CG during a tag sale @ $999 and took a 15% discount on top of that! For me, it was a steal. Then I added a Deluxe Reverb "Blues Forever" Tube Set from Torres Engineering for another $160 and LOVE the Blues vibe I get.

Great amp that I can actually lift in and out of my car 8)

First many amps over 25-watt with tubes may be over kill playing with a drummer in a garage or small club environment. A budget of $700.00 to $2000.00 is big vast. If more like $700.00, I would get a Tweed Blues Jr, botique OD pedal and high quality cable. Based on $2,000.00 I echo the Victoria amps, Fender Deulxe Reverb, Bassman and or Fender Super Reverb. Again, I prefer less watage and turning it up to get natural break-up than a craniking a Bassman and blowing away your drummer.
