You can figure out the best amp for the blues by doing this.... listen til you hear some really great blues, and then find the amp it's coming out of, and follow the cord until you come to the guitar player.

That's a good one, right there... an amp being played by someone who can play.

Seriously, man, there's no such thing. FInd an amp you like the sound of. I don't know many straight blues guys who would say the DRRI was "the best", but I certainly know some who like it well enough. Most blues dudes I know of play some kind of tweed circuit... like a tweed Deluxe, Twin or Princeton.

I'd just add a bassman to that list. :)

I'll add my Egnater Rebel 20 and my 74 Champ.
Any amp will work for Blues. I've heard great blues stuff coming out SS amps too.

I love my DRRI for blues. I really want a Fender tweed Deluxe too though- but they are a bit expensive. Any amp will do really, depends on what kind of tone you want. I believe B.B. King uses solid state amps.

My '67 Bandmaster works great for me. I installed '59 Bassman transformers(Victoria's)and GZ34 rectifier. ART

If you don't mind spending the money I say any of the Fender CS Tweeds!
Echoing SlapChop! I also have to add the Bassman and the Egnater

You can also build a 5e3 clone or buy one already built for a fraction of the cash of a CS Tweed. Take a look at Mission Amps.

You can spend $3500 for a top shelf Victoria Tweed and have a really, really great sounding amp...

...or for about a hundred bucks you can get a Peavey Bandit 65 and have a really great sounding amp.

Seriously friend, it's all about what you want. The only rule for finding an amp to play the blues with is that there are no rules. Find a sound you like, buy the amp, play blues.

If you let us know what the maximum price is and where you will and might be using it (at home, practice with a drummer, gigs in a small venue etc) you'll get some good advice.

A '65 Deluxe Reverb – perfecto if you can get one for the money. You might try a dozen amps in a store and with all the distractions, not really be able to evaluate them properly. I'd go with the thousands of pro's who use these..."let their ears be yours!"

Too loud for my needs, but I still can't help lusting after one.
