I apologize if this is a newbie question….this is my first post…I’m getting a used 59 Bassman LTD, I traded two guitars I no longer play for it, so I think it’s great deal, I’m looking forward to buying pedals for the things that have come as on board effects on the other amps I’ve owned, like drive, reverb & tremolo.

I’m a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of pedal options I have, I want to overdrive the amp at living room levels but not color the tone so much it could be any amp; I want it to sound like an overdriven Bassman. I’m considering a Seymour Duncan Twin Tube Classic; does anyone have any experience with it?

I was also considering the Fender 63 Reverb Unit RI… from what I’ve been reading it seems the quality is somewhat hit or miss, but what concerns me most is could I employ it at the end of my effect chain?

My intention is to run guitar>overdrive pedal>delay pedal>tremolo pedal>63 Reverb RI>59 Bassman

I would welcome your input or suggestions.

thanks

OD pedal- Play the Bassman first, see if you even need a OD pedal because those break up so very nice. If you do need one to get crunch at lower volumes, the Twin tube classic is a good pedal, you should give that a try. I'd also recommend a older used RAT (one with an LM308 chip preferably), the MI Audio crunch box if you like Marshall on steroids type of sounds or hell, just a nice fuzz will do fine.

Delay- Line 6 DL4, Boss DD-7, EH Deluxe Memory Man (preferably the big one if you can find one), MXR carbon copy, and if you want to spend more and look at some FUlltone and T Rex stuff that's up to you. Play em all, they are all pretty good (mah fav's the Deluxe Memory Man, love that pedal ^^)

I can't help with reverb or tremolo, never really needed them (sorry ). Anyway, hope I helped a little bit >_>

I have a 59 Bassman ri and I use a ts-9 tubescreamer and it sounds awesome. It doesnt color the sound of the amp at all.Looking at some demos of the pedal you are looking at, it seems to me that that pedal is geared more for someone with a solid state amp to give them tubelike overdrive and distortion.I say that because the pedal has 2 preamp tubes in it.In my opinion , the 59 Bassman has one of the best overdrive tones in the market. Why would you want something to color that? What you want is a pedal thats as transparent as possible.Set your amp just on the verge of breakup , if you can and use the overdrive pedal to push it over the edge. That way you hear the amps natural breakup and not a pedal that just saturates the preamp.I know the tubescreamer isnt the only pedal, but its a good match.Alot of people rave about the OCD pedal too.

Hi Shepard , my experience with the Fender stand alone reissue reverb unit is that it had too much gain for my tastes. I run it into the front end of two older Fenders, one of which is very similar to your '59 Bassman. After doing a lot of research and testing some stand alone units , I decided on building the Weber 5G15 unit. Turned out to be fine for me, but the Fender unit might be all you'll need for reverb and a little more gain. ART

Hey Shepard, I have a 59 Bassman LTD and I think you'll find that for the bedroom it is a little loud if you try to go for natural distortion. Best bet is a TS9 or TS10. Otherwise your neighbors are gonna burn down your house. The Bassman is really loud. I wound up using the pedal when gigging in smaller rooms. I use a TS10 and a delay pedal and sometimes a tremolo pedal with mine, and no reverb. Depending on whether or not you use humbuckers you'll have to turn the bass knob all the way down - the amp is also very bass heavy. I like combining the inputs with a jumper also. Try that and you'll get some pretty interresting results sound wise.
