Recently my wife and I attended an outdoor concert in the park. There were probably in excess of 1000 people and they had a great blues band. I could see the guitarist, which sounded awsome, was using a blackface Fender amp of some sort that was mic'd thru the PA. During a break I walked up to the stage to check out their equipment. I have to say I was blown away to find that the guitarist which sounded so good was using a Frontman 65R. I wondered why a band this good would be using a $200 amp. I don't think this guy could have sounded any better using a $2000 amp. It just goes to show that most of what we hear comes from the player's hands. This must be a much better amp than I thought however.

While it's true that most guitar fanatics on the internet -- and elsewhere -- will always tout the superiority of valve amps, don't ever let anyone tell you that a solid-state amp will sound "bad." My main amp for years was a Peavey Bandit 65, and I have no doubt that the Bandit has fueled more great performances than just about anything else. Solid-amps are good because they're relatively inexpensive and eminently durable. The fellow you speak of could have been using one because the concert was outdoors. As outdoor gigs are notoriously unpredictable, it's quite possible he left his Super Reverb at home. But hey, it's true that Clapton will still be a better player than me if he's playing a $90 crap guitar through a 5-watt Crate. Thanks for this, by the way.

you'd be surprised. i get bashed all the time for my frontman 25R. There very nice SS amps, the cleans on them are superb, and there probably some of the best amps for the money.

I recently steered a friend into buying this amp to use with his cover band. He needed something with good cleans and versatility in a portable package. He couldn't be happier with it.

I own a Peavey Bandit 65, an old 1986 model and love it but I usually take my Frontman 65R to my humble litte gigs. The Fender is a lighter and smaller amp and it really does have a great clean sound. I did buy a speaker from a Blues Jr. and did a swap but I wouldn't trade this amp without getting a major upgrade in the deal.

I have owned tube amps in the past. 2 X 12 heavy to tote mpnsters that caused my back to cry mercy so maybe that is affecting my ears LOL!
