The history of this amp is a bit unknown... I purchased this approx. a year ago from a guy claiming that this was a Hand-Wired Bassman made by Fender. However, I have had difficulty finding out whether or not this is true, and I haven't been able to find out if Fender, in fact, made PTP '59 Bassman's in the 1990's. I highly doubt it. Either way, I didn't want to let this one slip away, and I'm glad I didn't!

I have yet to find another Reissue Bassman with such vintage looking tweed. It is very dark, and "aged" looking. Unlike the newer models, which are yellowish, and it is NOT the "Relic'd" reissue, with torn edges and cigarette burns. The tweed "appears" to have years and years of road use, but when removing either the "Fender" logo plate on the front, or the rear plate, the color of the tweed is consistant. This would leave me to believe that the amp has always looked this way since it's birth in the early '90's. Perhaps Hand-Relic'd by it's unknown original owner, amp builder, or in fact, came this way from the factory. The grill cloth, in typical Fender fashion, is an immaculate Oxblood/Brown. No tears, pulls, or stains whatsoever.

The Date code on the sticker states "DJ" which means it was made in Oct. 1993. If you saw/heard this on a stage, you would think it was an original. Another unique factor, is that the jewel knob is BLUE, and the chicken head knobs for the Presence, Bright Volume and Normal Volume controls, are RED. The rest are your standard black.

The Amp is appropriately fitted with 4-10" Blue Alnico speakers, as did the all the '90's reissue's, not the Green Jensens that are used today.

WHATS THE DEAL WITH THIS AMP???

I would be curious to know too. I have a 96 BMRI and I doubt there was a hand wired version. It could be that someone took a reissue from the 90s and made it hand wired. I know there are kits out there that you can get. ended up cleaning up the tweed on mine and lacquering it and using a tint i made it look older. I left the frayed corners and all.

It sounds fantastic, but I still find myself using my DRRI more often, due to the reverb/vibrato, but the Bassman is second to none. Pictures soon.

Very interesting, Fiffitiescat ! I work on older amps and the Fullerton workmanship is pretty obvious, although I know there are people who are attempting to forge these through different techniques. I guess you've tried to trace the serial numbers back to the Custom Shop. Other than that, I'd set a '93 hand wired Fender(Vibro-King) up next to your chassis and make every comparison possible. But that may be a logistical problem. You could always send the chassis to the Custom Shop and get their opinion. Yeah I'd try to talk to someone at the factory. Good Luck! ART
