It is. But if you want to get a really nice tone out of your amp, you won't be able to do that at home without having the neighboors hearing what you are playing hehe.

I use mine at home, and i can't put the master knob over 2-3 (depending on the volume knob) but still, even at low volume it's plays great!

Is it a good amp for home use - yes it is!

I'd say yes it is, if you know its limitations and potential issues.
Read through the forums and see what others have had to say about their experiences with this amp.

Some demos by Anthony using it to be found here http://www.steviesnacks.com/gear-videos/ and here http://www.oldtonezone.com/category/blu ... or-videos/

Hello Fenderibe,

Great choice for a home amp.
I use mine daily, sounds good loud and quite.{to me}
Vibro or Super Champ XD's are cleaner sounding with a
load of effects and voices, many like them more for this reason.

Best of luck whatever you choose.

Cheers.

I know it gets bashed here , but unless you bought it thinking its just a mini deluxe reverb or you are going on tour across the US soon, i would say its a good amp for home use.I gig with mine when i play at a venue that sound is an issue and for rehearsals.I have had zero problems so far .My first one was a little on the noisy side , but my present one isnt noisy at all.

I like mine very well for home use. I also agree with MrBill that a Superchamp XD can be a good choice with all the different voicings. I think the Blues Jr. has better tube tone than the Superchamp, but the Superchamp is more multi-dimensional.

It is truly an excellent choice for home use, and as stated here and in other threads, it WILL get plenty loud if desired. Sounds great at low volumes too. Go for the Tweed NOS with the Jensen speaker....well worth the extra $$! :)

Or the Texas Red BJ with the Celestion V30.

But for home use, be careful - a deputation of neighbours with flaming torches and pitchforks is entirely possible..

I have both the NOS tweed BJ (Jensen) and the super champ XD (upgraded with ragin cajun speaker) and both would be excellent for home use. Since getting the BJ I don't play the SCXD. I'd like to get rid of it for some cash, but it's still a killer amp and I can't bring myself to part with a nice piece of gear. Both amps can be quiet and loud enough for home use and can hang with a light drummer in a casual jam setting (possibly gigged if used through PA - haven't tried).

I recommend the BJ over the SCXD (better tone, true spring reverb, bigger speaker). My only complaint is that the bass flubbs at moderate to high volumes, especially when overdriven. Does anyone else experience this? I've only ever played mine, so I'm curious to find out if it's a common problem.

With tube amps, the reality is that power stage saturation is only available at high volume. If you're willing to forgoe power valve breakup, then yes, the BJ is an excellent choice for home use. It sounds great at virtually any level, and has a master volume -- this makes preamp distortion a reality at low volume. Moreover, the BJ is great because it can sound good at low volume and is even better when you crank it wide open for gigs or rehearsals.

My own preference is the Pro Junior which, I feel, sounds a bit better, albeit at the expense of quiet playing: it has no master volume. Thus, I think you'll be more than satisfied with a BJ. If you do want it to be loud, your best bet is to invest in a speaker cabinet of some sort with the same impedance as the amp. This will allow you to move more air and seem louder than it really is.

It's a 15 watt tube amp, so it needs to be fairly loud to hit that sweet spot (i.e. loud enough to annoy a roomate but not so loud that it upsets the neighbors). But you can also get a killer tone at low volumes.

Impedance of the external speaker can be more than the rating of the amp, but not less.

I learned this last week, as I'm looking for an external cab for a VCXD.
