If you're looking for a transparent pedal to provide a bit of cruch I would have to suggest the Keeley modded Blue Driver (BD-2). It is the most transparent drive pedal I've ever come across. It has a very different sound than the TS-808 or TS-9. Plus if you drastically increase the gain you get a fuzz pedal type sound. However the pedal never alters your tones;. Another, more expensive pedal that I truly love is my Robin Trower OD. Its a Fulltone pedal and is also somewhat transparent. The breakup provided by the RTO is smoother and able to provide a very dirty and smokey smooth overdrive with sweet harmonics if cranked. Although this Fulltone RTO is a great pedal $250 is a bit high so only go after it if you've got some extra cash laying around. It is worth the money, however, $250 is alot to spend on a stomp box unless you are a pro or just love trying out new high grade equip like it do. I also know many other Fulltone effects are around that can possibly provide great results such as the OCD, Fulldrive ect.... Anyway. I hope some of this was helpful. Let me know if you've got anymore questions.

Russ

Try out a Boss OD-1. I have a bassman and it sounds really nice through it.

Barber pedals sound great. I have the small fry burn unit and its fantastic. It has a switch that changes the gain structure so you can have the classic creamy blues tone or a little crunchier higher gain tone or a mix of them both. It also has a dynamic control which you can adjust to your picking style.

I run it behind a ts9 and stomp the ts 9 for a gain/volume boost for solo settings.

I don't have much experience, but my ears know what they like and that's a Bad Monkey... sounds great with all the Fender amps I've had. $50.00 and a cute name too!

You might try a pedal called "Liquid Sunshine" by Subdecay. It sounds fantastic, is true bypass and doesn't fiddle with the tone of the instrument at all. You can dial up some nice reviews of it on youtube. I'm personally thinking of getting one in a few months to use with my DRRI that I just purchased. Best of luck to you.

I've been seriously looking into the Barber pedals. After watching the Youtube demos I've come to the conclusion that the Direct Drive wouldn't be for me. What HAS caught my attention is the LTD and the LTD SR. After visiting the Barber website, I see they've just released a new 2-channel version called the "1/2 Gainer". I think that's what I'm going to order. It'll be a few weeks before I can place the order yet.

MI Audio crunch box rocks IMO. And I use the MI pro Blues pedal as well.
If that helps
