Now that I have a SRRI I need to find a decent overdrive pedal to go with it. I know the amp breaks up around 5 (better at 6) but I can't always play that loud and I want something to give me dirt at lower volumes.

So to give an idea what I'm going for...

I also have an HRDv and I actually like the drive channel on it. In fact, that was my "go to" drive. I like having it set with the drive around 3 or 4 to keep the dynamics when playing soft buy go into a nice smooth breakup when strumming or playing hard. Think Keith Richards 1988 through 1994 sound, Tom Petty, or The Hives.

Also, don't suggest the TS808 or any of it's clones. My friend lent me his BYOC OD2 which is an 808 clone and it's okay... I'm not crazy about the "mid hump". I also have been playing around with a BYOC Mouse (RAT clone) and it's not really giving me what I want.

Frankly, what would be great is an OD pedal that doesn't colour the tone of the guitar. That's why I have a SRRI - cause it's got great tone. Just give me something to do the breakup and I'd be happy. I've been watching tones of videos on youtube and I think I like the sound of the Barber Direct Drive or Direct Drive LG.

So, suggestions?

I haven't used one personally so take this with a grain of salt until others chime in...but what about a Boss BD-2 Blues Driver with the Keeley mod?

G2D . I believe all the sound demos are done straight into a Fender twin and SR.
awesome tone! They have three different one`s to choose from The Creme tone (booster) ,Classic overdrive and Custom overdrive.

http://www.g2d.co.nz/main.php

The new tube type Blackstar overdrive`s and distortions are getting great reviews also.

From Boss I only like the Keeley SD-1 Stacked Mod pedal.

My suggestions are given because I also don`t like a pedal that colors or compromises the tone.

You should check out www.proguitarshop.com

They sell tons of pedals (both low and high end) and they have high quality demo videos for most of their stuff. Some of the videos are on youtube so you may have already stumbled across them.

I'm a fan of MI Audio pedals. They're reasonably priced and sound great. They make a few overdrive/fuzz/distortion pedals. I bought the Blues Pro and love it. It blows away my TS9 by leaps and bounds. I'll probably get the Crunch Box next. Like everything else, you can find these pedals relatively cheap on ebay.

As suggested, check out proguitarshop, amazing demos! I LOVE the Barber LTD and LTD SR. If you want more gain then, look at Barber Direct Drive. They are great pedals that won't color your tone.

I gave the Fulltone OCD pedal a test drive through a DeVille at my local music shop and thought it sounded fantastic. A very warm, natural sounding overdrive. It was, unfortunately, a bit too expensive for my budget.

For under $100, I'm partial to the Boss BD-2. Similar to the Tube Screamer but without the mid-hump.

I played out of a Fulltone GT-500 that was pretty sweet http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=475968

Also the Electro Harmonix English Muffin is pretty versatile too.

Some people like the Pigtronix and Damage Control pedals with tubes in them...I guess you should try out a few...many of 'em out there!

I have an Ibanez TS-9 and a Fulltone Fulldrive Mosfet for low to mid overdrive and the Fulltone just blows the TS-9 away. I mean it's just no comparison. "Vintage" mode just adds gain, no tone coloring, maybe just a slight mid hump. "Flat mids" mode is where I leave it all the time. It's just killer. Totally transparent and with my Strat on the neck/middle pickup, it's as close as your gear can get you to John Mayer's tone. It also has another footswitch with it's own gain control. I also have the Fulltone GT-500 for the higher gain tones, but I'm not too crazy about it. It's a little too much like fuzz for me. I like a soft-clipped signal. I also like the Barber pedals, but I haven't owned one.

+1 proguitarshop.com

Keep 'em coming guys!

The problem I find with many of the youtube demo videos is every and I mean, EVERY guitarist doing the demo plays nothing but a bunch of fancy blues style soloing. IMHO just about every overdrive sounds pretty much the same when playing single notes or doing solos. Where I find they really show their colours is when you play open chords. That's where I find the TS808 camp tends to turn into mud.

I want to be able to open chord playing rhythm and not lose that Fender sparkle and chime in my sound. I don't want to sound all compressed like it's coming from a box.

So far the only demos to stand out for me are the Barber Direct Drive (and the LG) and the EH Germanium OD sounds rather intriguing. The fact that it has no tone knob is interesting. Anyone have experience with the EH Germanium OD?

The Full-Drive 2 Mosfet is what I bought from ProGuitarShop. I wanted the same thing you do, and am very satisfied with it.

Way Huge Pork Loin.

If you're patient, and able to spend an hour or two fiddling before finding a whole slew of killer tones, then this is the pedal for you. It's cheap enough to differentiate it from the boutique overdrives, and it's solid enough to take a serious beating; it's much more versatile than a standard Tubescreamer, and it's functional enough to be used on its own. Plus the name is awesome. I love mine.

I was waiting on posting before my new pedal came in. I just bought a Biyang Metal End.

So far I can't find much that it can't do. This thing is a freak! With the amount of eq options, amp modes and the amp simulator option, it's just freaking badass. From a nice clear warm distortion, to full on ear piercing suturated metal. It's REALLY cool. Especially for the price. (paid $65 for it)

Be sure to check into Biyang as an option. I'm blown away by the Metal End so far. It can do a whole lot more than just Metal. Great classic tones too. I haven't run it through my HRDV yet. So far just my SS 85. But holy crap!

You can't go wrong with the Fulltone Fulldrive 2 Mosfet. There might be some pedals out there that are just as good, but I don't think there's anything any better. Really.
